Satire always runs the risk of just being the thing it’s trying to imitate if it is done poorly. I can’t really find a place in that sketch where the joke isn’t just “haha this is awesome for him,” so if the sketch is meant to criticize those tropes it falls quite short of the goal. It’s really just a bad sketch, which is fine, SNL has plenty of them.

Definitely a top ten sketch, but there have been so many I’ve enjoyed the last few years: some edgy like Olive Garden or Wells Fargo or Elf on a Shelf or Frozen 2. Some gentle and sweet, like the Cha-Cha Slide at the black wedding reception. When people say SNL is no longer funny, they just haven’t looked hard enough. The original years had clunkers too. They are just forgotten.

Toxxik don’t quote amendments when you don’t understand what they mean. People love doing that and it’s really annoying. SNL does cross the line, but it is usually very rarely and when they do it was in a crap episode anyways. Though since it’s always brought up, the difference with male and female sexual harassment is females are already seen as less dominant so it is basically bullying, but even worse. With male students it is generally felt they can get out of the situation and males supposedly like sex more, so that is why they joke about it, even though sexual harassment of either gender is just as wrong. The joke is about social standing, of course it would be frowned upon.

@Chuck Buskee I feel more towards Carlin's point of view on that. You can joke about anything, it depends on how you construct the joke. Subject can be anything. Good example was Larry King interviewing Jeselnik. He was speaking about how you cant joke about some stuff and brings 911 as a subject of what you CANT joke about. Anthony disagreed with Larry and told him Louis' C.K. joke about it (joke was about the way you figure how bad person is by how soon that person masturbated after 911 and for him it was between 2 building going down) which actually made Larry King laugh out loud and I guess changed his point of view a bit at least.

@SneedyKetler
@SneedyKetler 4 жыл бұрын
I feel like Rocket was done wrong. And I loathe Jenny Slate but she didn’t deserve the axe. Swearing on live television decades on, it’s just a fact of life. It was funny when they put mics in the helmets of NFL players. That was never gonna fly for live tv.
@mikeking7710
@mikeking7710 4 жыл бұрын
I thought the same thing when I saw her comment. I do like Jenny Slate, and was sorry when she left the show. I remembered seeing her F-bomb live that night, and became an instant fan. But the original explanation offered way back, that she & the show just didn't click was more likely. She was on the show for the entire season, and just wasn't brought back for the following one. So she couldn't really have been fired for the F-bomb. Otherwise they'd have pulled the trigger very quickly, rather than wait until the following spring. Charles Rocket was actually on one additional show after his F-bomb before he was let go, but then that was late in the season.

That Heroin AM ad is brilliant, as a former heroin addict of 10 years I personally draw some conclusions that may or may not be true; shooting it as a prescription ad harkens back to the fact that Bayer marketed heroin, also the fact that this problem has infiltrated the suburbs as I am the son of wealthy parents

It seems like people have forgotten that comedy is SUPPOSED to be slightly uncomfortable and make you actually think about the issues it brings up. Sometimes the only way to bring up uncomfortable issues is with humor, whether the humor "hits the mark" or not.
