One of the most uplifting and satisfying endings for me is the end of Schindler's List. When the newly freed Jews walking in the field morphs into those still alive today (at the time of filming) plus their descendants with the scroll telling us how many are alive because of Oskar Schindler just demonstrates how much one flawed human being can accomplish when they choose to do good. Add on the scene at his grave in Israel with the "Schindler Jews" and the actors who portrayed them leaving a memorial and I was blubbering like a baby.
@seanbigay10427 ай бұрын
IMHO the most heartbreaking moment in that sequence was when the real Mrs. Schindler, having laid a stone of remembrance upon Oskar's grave, briefly caresses it -- as if Oskar himself might still feel her touch. And who's to say that he didn't?

@@Chris-hr2uj The book (by Stephen King) the movie is based on ends with Red's voice-over at the end: after "I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it its in my dreams" the book ends "I hope . . . I hope . . . I hope." This drives home Andy's thought earlier that "Hope is a good thing; maybe the best of things . . ." so that IS the happy ending -- that Red, who had given up all hope inside the prison, and even after getting parole would have ended up like Brooks, now has hope, as Andy always did. I think their reunion is pretty much implicit in that happy, hopeful ending.
@Chris-hr2uj7 ай бұрын
@@richardcanedo1614 yes, i had read the book also has a same ending. The movie and book are a story of hope. I interpreted Redd's ending monologue to be that Redd was changed by Andy's hopeful tenacity. And by the ending monologue, Redd expresses his hope, despite the chances he may not make it to andy. I liked the sense of hope that the ambiguous ending places on viewers. But i think the producers of the film were of the mind that the general audience would appreciate an explicit happy ending as a reward, over the implied ending of hopefulness. Literature is art, and free to be critiqued with different opinions. The author and director took it one way. But the feedback from posters here is that the altered (producer's) ending, while less true to the original art, is more "perfect". Two ways to look at it. I tend to favor the original ending. I find it pretty tought provoking.
@richardcanedo16147 ай бұрын
@@Chris-hr2uj I get your point, but I think that being explicit about their meeting (which is very strongly implied already by his non-suicide and his trip to that place about which Andy told him) detracts from the real theme of the movie, which is that "hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things," and the reason Redd has rediscovered his "I hope . . ."

The book death of Voldemort was better. Because it showed him what he was, a man. The movie made him more mythical and monsterious. I don't think Rowling has the mind about her to drive the difference, but to have a magical death makes the whole thing feel unreal and more like it couldn't happen. While what is brilliant about the book, having his magic completely back fire on him and he just... dies... Shows that even magic isn't above reality of certain absolutes. And even the worst monsters are often just men.

Crazy thing is, Frank Darabont wanted Shawshank to end with the line "I hope" as the camera panned to the ocean. Suggesting ambiguity and that Red was transformed into being hopeful, like Andy wanted. But the studio made him add the scene on the beach after to make the audience happy. Sometimes ambiguous endings are more impactful and artful. Terminator 2 should have ended the second Arnold went into the lava, and his system shut down cut to black screen.

Respect for your opinion 👍🏽. Abrupt, maybe but i think music and a crescendo would have smoothed it in to not be dense. I personally feel like sarah connor voiceover serves solely as a way to kinda explain the ending to the audience. Good list. I'll have to check out the ones I haven't already watched. Another one came to mind with a satisfying ending - Midnight Run.

1. Crocodile Dundee (Sue declaring her love for Mick and Mick climbing over other people's heads to get to her) 2. Get Out 3. Schindler's List 4. Ghost 5. Die Hard 2 6. Titanic. I agree with your number 1 pick but some of your choices are questionable.
