Year ago I had a V8 Buick front timing cover do something very similar. The own never changed the coolant and electrolysis ate a hole in the cover. A hard one to find , Nice job ZIG

ZIGgassedUP so what dis you do to remove the contaminated oil and water from the crankcase. I’m asking because I have a similar situation in an outboard motor and I just wanna know what you think is the best way to get it cleaned out.

ZIGgassedUP , yeah , always getting timing covers welded , the first timing chain I ever did with zero experience or guidance, I read that hanes manual like a hawk.

Back in the day I would cut a chain link and wind a new chain on...It was a bit of an ordeal but it only took about 1/2 hour unless it was an early one and then they usually broke the tensioner pivot bolt so it's an inside job then...I got real good at sliding the cover back on without buggering up the head gasket or sump gasket.

I know how ya feel on that deal Zig. I can fix 12 of the same problens on the same kinda transmission and the 13th repair i get screwed! Engine work is worse. I dont mess with it unless its my stuff. Looks like someone has been there before you and left you a surprise in there somewhere!

nice job finding the coolant leak i had 97 f150 that had 2 vapor locks from gasket failure letting coolant into a chamber...#1 both times. im a retired gasket maker so i know my thickness's. so i have the head checked for warpage. they came back ok. i asked for the tolerances around each chamber and got the hell chewed out of me. well i put the motor back together. ford replaced all the gaskets for free. 2 months later same shit. so back i go to the machinist who did the head measurements. second set of fords gaskets were thicker by .007. the shithead machinist still would not give me the stats i wanted. i had to find someone no one around wanted involved. i suspect they thought lawsuits....takes money to have lawsuits. i did find automotive grad school who was tickled i brought it in for class study. all the passages on the head where within tolerances - .002 to +.003. i get the motor running and about 20,000 mile the new water pumps goes out...ugg i didn't buy from nappa. you can spin the fan on the pump by hand...but it catches right at the right spot were it will not turn. after all this over heating i still have the that same head. drove me nuts for over 2 yrs
