Your videos are always so interesting. They really inspire me to make these kinds of contraptions and experiment. As a way to pay this back, here's a little trick that you don't know about. When you have to empty a bottle full of water/liquid quickly, give it a nice swirl just before pouring. This way you create a vortex or whirlpool inside the bottle that lets air rush in at the same time that water comes out. Hope you at least find that interesting!

Not water as water conducts electric potential. The only thing utterly harmless to electronics would be mineral oil, and you would need significantly thicker inner diameter for the tubing. Still, yes.,The setup of a liquid cooled pc is feasible a and even commonplace for artists or people interested in higher computer power. Cool trick is having a fish tank of mineral oil sealed airtight in a fish tank to give the illusion a sunken computer tower.

I came across this looking for ideas for a birdbath/fountain that did not require electric or solar power. With that being said would this work with PVC pipes as tanks in a straight verticle set up with a shower head at the top, or would that mess up the flow? Also with it also being a birdbath with the increased amount of water, other than evaporation would I need to fill it often?
@YeanyScience
@YeanyScience 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Tony, My mistake on posting this video is not showing the length of time that the water flows. the fountain will only flow as long as it takes for the top water supply to drain down to the lower bottle. We are talking about up to 10 minutes, which means that you would have to constantly be switching the bottles around. I'd like to have the same thing, since birds are attracted to the sound of splashing water and we have enough trees that solar panel is not a good option.
@velvanae
@velvanae 5 жыл бұрын
@@YeanyScience Thank you for that information I looked up other ideas and seen your video on a fountain in a bottle and thought about combining the two setups but came to the conclusion it would not work due to air pressure not being correct. It isn't continuous. It stops when the bottle is empty.
@seanregehr4921
@seanregehr4921 5 жыл бұрын
It is continuous in the sense it continuously flows without any external forces. Place it outdoors and it will operate will almost no human effort as rain will refill any lost water from evaporation etc. Even in colder climates the water can free and as soon as it melts it will start back up as long the water level is sufficient.
@timhallas4275
@timhallas4275 5 жыл бұрын
@@seanregehr4921 Wrong. The "external force" is gravity. The water had to be lifted to the upper container in order for this action to begin. That is applied potential energy.. Once the upper container is empty, there is no longer potential energy available. The idea that rain filling the upper container is adding energy. The point is, this is no more perpetual motion than is the water cycle .... evaporation...condensation...precipitation. It requires energy from the sun to work.
@seanregehr4921
@seanregehr4921 5 жыл бұрын

How long does it fountain for? Think there’s an size ratio where the water in the drain is restricted with more weight due to thicker plumbing that the water up in a thinner pipe could be pushed higher or further and as long as there was a water between the escape for air pressure and air pressure never surpassed the water weight it could run for a very long time?

I can make a fountain run for ever without lots of bottle, straws, tubing and refilling just by putting a 6 volts dc rechargeable battery through a solar panel, ambient light, and it will work perfectly well with a water pump running off of a solar cell.

I am very curious to know if we could build a much larger one and use the weight of the falling water to make a generator spin and produce perpetual electricity... The water in top bottle could be replaced as needed with floating valve or else

It's got more to do with the transfer of the air in the system. Once the transfer is complete it stops/if it was filled with fluid it wouldn't operate.

Bruce , could you please do a video to demonstrate and explain the physics behind why a candle that is burning at both ends and that is suspended at a pivot point in the middle of the candle will begin to swing in a see-saw effect ? My understanding of this principle is that , when an object is balanced on a pivot point, the turning forces on each side must equal the turning force on the other side. This means that on one side of the pivot, the force must be moving in counterclockwise motion and on the other side, the force must be moving in a clockwise motion. But why does this motion commence with the flames? the flames are not exerting a downward force, or are they? thank you .
@YeanyScience
@YeanyScience 4 жыл бұрын
I haven't made a video on this but done and seen it a few times. The burning candle alters from one side to the other due to melting wax. the side that tilts down directs the heated flame towards the candle which melts it faster losing more wax. The faster loss of wax then mass that side lighter, so the candle tilts in the opposite direction. The other side is now lower, the angle once again directs more heat towards the candle wax causing it melt faster. The process repeats itself over and over until the candle gets too short

Here's a challenge. Make a continuously running fountain using just one whole bottle and one large catchment tray, and connecting hoses, pipes, and sealing bungs, using only Gravitational Potential Energy to power the fountain. the tubes don't need to be the same diameter, and the majority of the water should be in the catchment tray.

Only trouble is i don't think they run forever, the water gets lower in one part and then it stops. I'm fairly certain it isn't possible for it to go forever, sorry.🙂

Same here Joseph, I've been thinking of ways around prolonging the time. Like using larger buckets for 'B' and 'C' and having the rain gutters drop into 'A'. Maybe even connecting an air pump to 'B' for when it fills up. Did you ever get anything going for your birds?
@digitallion3861
@digitallion3861 3 жыл бұрын
@@greggory1532 I haven't had the time to do anything yet. I've had ALOT of projects going on lately such as a weather head and new meter base/breaker panel and new wiring for the house. New plumbing for the hotwater heater and recently we lost our vehicle and are now stranded with no transportation. I like the rain gutter idea, in fact I already have a system set up to catch rainwater from my gutter that I use for watering the garden. Larger vessels for parts B and C I think would prolong the time also, I'm thinking 50 gallon drums should do it. lol

Bruce Yeany, at 3:41 I understand your point. Some people claim that putting the two lower water containers at the same elevation is the "solution" and that it will run forever. What would you say about that?
@YeanyScience
@YeanyScience 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Marc, I am going to do a quick video on this to clarify this point, the water has to be lifted up then runs from upper bottle to lower bottle then stops. objects or liquids can't lift themselves.

Mi pregunta es si yo pongo al final del bebedero una manguera hacia la garrafa de 80L haria lo mismo que lo que as iventado tuuuu con las garrafas espero su respuesta lo antes posible gracias y un saludo

I don't understand how the water can be pushed higher than where it originally sat. When I was a kid, we had a local store called "The World of Science." Maybe it was a chain. I don't know. It was before the internet was big. I also had Edmund Scientific catalogs delivered to me. There was a fountain like this that used a piece of plastic to connect 2 soda bottles, and it had some tubing, and did this exact thing. Does this ring a bell?
