Because of the Heavy metals and pesticides in water Hyacinth .. it was not proposed for composting due to the leaching of these metals and pesticides.... then how come it was proposed for the preparation of biochar for water treatment?..... What do you think... During water treatment .. these heavy metals won't get leached in treated water from biochar prepared by using the same water Hyacinth...?????

Any plans to leverage this methodology and take it to more municipalities? All local bodies are investing heavily in STPs which due to high costs are not working efficiently. These methods can be boon for them. Please ask a start-up to take this up. There are many new start-ups in STP sector which would love to take this technology or methodology

Our rivers are dead. They only have invasive fishes, which will grow more. Solution is controlling the water hyacinth by improving water quality. We should look for more sustainable solutions

It is wrong that it doesn't have the predator. In nature everything is balanced. Perhaps this organisation is not aware of the success of South Africa eliminated by introducing predators from South America.

Just to give you a quick reply about situations in India & Maharashtra in particular. All our rivers are monsoon fed rivers with some amount of base flows. The rivers are flowing ecosystems. Biological Predators can be controlled in a controlled or a lentic ecosystem like stagnant waterbody like lakes, ponds etc. Our Rivers here have complex pollution scenario and a very dense drainage network. Any in situ intervention requires more in depth research. Whatever is successful in one country could be a disaster at other location if introduced without thorough research. So rather than what is wrong or right, its more important to understand what is appropriate and safe to be introduced in situ. That's exactly we have mentioned at the end of the video, that more research is required. The film is created for sharing our experiences so others can get inspired to create sustainable solutions at their local level. Control & Management of Water hyacinth is an issue world over until we are successful in removing pollutants from our water bodies and it also does not have a model or standardized solution but one can find more customized solutions based on local conditions.
