Hey Jason and a good morning to you. What started out as a weird fascination with wave pools has now led me to learning about pool mechanics through online video courses via your YourTube channel. So proud to be part of 'The Team'. 💯 🌊

Are you going to refinish the wood planks above as well? A nice coat of fresh stain would look really smart... 🤔
@thepoolguy2 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I could do that with water in the pool, so I might not do now, but in a couple weeks. I like your idea

Look into renting a steam cleaner not a pressure washer but a true steam cleaner if that coating is plastic based it will melt the coating off without hurting the concrete they are amazing for cleaning things just like this.

Needle scaler??? Might help to knock off the loose stuff. Not sure if it would be to aggressive though 🤔
@thepoolguy2 жыл бұрын
Not a bad thought. I might give this a try if i have time.
@lwilton2 жыл бұрын
@@thepoolguy I suspect a needle scaler would either go thru the finish and pulverize the concrete behind it, or just pulverize the concrete without much harming the finish. Needle scalers are good for getting heavy rust and slag off of steel for the most part.

I use jacks magic ti.e cleaner it dissolves scum without any real scrubbing if you mix it 2ith acid it makes a paste that sticks to the walls had 8 pools for Disney in fla I used to take care of had to scrub scum line every other week

Can't you use a gel coat like we do on our sailboat or maybe even like a fiberglass coating and gel coat over it and then it'll be easier to clean the scum and stuff.. Love Your channel very much ✌🏼💗😊❣️

Hey there fella Great job as always on that wall I agree what someone said about a really high pressure washer to get that crap off Also I noticed at the end of the video that the bottom coating had the look almost like a spray can eff5 ??? Good luck with that wall .. I think your gonna need it !

We're you using a cupped wire wheel or the one with the bristles on the outside edge on the angle grinder? Surprised it melted the coating. That you could use a orange stripper to break down the finish some then try to wire wheel it after a little bit with the orange stripper. May not work because the orange stripper is very mild but worth a shot
@thepoolguy2 жыл бұрын
I used all three of those. The orange stripper didnt even dent it.

Im thinking your right about the fading because would the acid wash not create some sort of chemical reaction if it was a calcium buildup?

Try a "patio" rotary cleaner on the HP washer

Ecofinish is resistant to pretty much every acid on the planet. Its made of polyethylene. Your acid wash isnt going to work sad to say. However, polyethylene is weak to two things, benzene and acetone. It is entirely possible you can use either, or both of these products to remove ecofinish. If that doesnt work, dry ice blasting might be an option too. The extreme cold and abrasiveness should just flake the coating right off. But I would try undiluted benzene and acetone first and scrub like hell.
@thepoolguy2 жыл бұрын
WE tried acetone, doesnt affect it as much as we would like.
@thepoolguy2 жыл бұрын
Oh... and just remembered, the Eco Finish guys were the ones that told me to try acid washing....
@TheWittyGeek2 жыл бұрын
Apparently Xylene works as well, and is sold at home improvement stores, unlike benzene.
@liltrekkie19942 жыл бұрын
@@thepoolguy I wish you luck then! Acid washing did very little on my ecofinish but hopefully yours goes better than mine did.

Try a decent TSP soak before the pressure washer and see if it helps loosen up that flaking stuff.

Did you try something like a 3M 9410 or the Clean and Strip XT Pro Extra Cut? I've been consistently impressed with the 3M paint removal disks for taking off thick paint and heavy rust. If I were facing this I'd at least take a shot with one.

You would be surprised at how much the pad was torn up. WE have these for rust remover, and it didnt do much.

You would think it would take several people to do all of this work for such a large pool, and ThePoolGuy proves otherwise. Another thing... with the pool depth being stated as "5 FT 10 IN", it would seem ThePoolGuy is 5 FT 9 IN, if the 'scum line' doesn't lie. LOL
@JeffStewart78..2 жыл бұрын
I would use a pressurized steam washer.

Isn't there something that you can put on ther wall and when that scum line forms, to just discard it? I amd working with an expensive sewer cctv equipment and the parts of it which get the most wear are covered with duct tape or similar. We periodically change the tape and it is like new.

Acid wash is a really bad idea when you are going to paint it. Try using P16 sand paper discs you can use on the machine you already have and paint with epoxy pool paint and primer

I'd never heard of Ecofinish 9since I'm not a pool guy ;-) but looking at their web site I see they claim they are magic. I can't tell for sure if they say that you can refinish over an earlier finish, but I'd sure hope they have a method. Have you decided to not redo the Ecofinish for some reason? (Probably cost?) Looking at their product description, I believe I saw where they said that certain pool chemicals can bleach the finish, and that is likely what you have going on there. They have very specific recommendations for maintaining pool chemistry to make the finish last.
@thepoolguy2 жыл бұрын
Cost is prohibitive. Plus, we don't like it. Also, a pool surface to have so many requirements to maintain in a commercial setting... sucks.
