Brilliant! So this way the plants will only consume just as much water as they need? The plants won't get over watered?

This is a short-term solution if you are going on vacation for a few days. Water should go to the roots through the hole in the pot. But long-term use can damage plants because the pot hole is the plant's airway and should not be blocked for long periods.
