I never noticed this hole until today my 85 Chevy C10 started leaking small amount of water which made me think my water pump starting to go out didn't see the whole until after I swapped out the pumps and googled small whole on water pump which led me to this video 👌🏽👌🏽 great Video

super informative, as mine has been leaving little puddles on the floor for a week, (first ever). My gm dealer diagnosed the weep hole issue, and is presently replacing it with an actual gm part ($590🇨🇦pump) and doing a coolant refresh. 👍

my passat started losing small amount of fluid at 10yr/106k mies so I got on with the timing belt job. sure enough there were signs of over weepage, so it did its job in warning me of imminent failure. thanks for the great video explanation

In my scooter 300cc the weep hole leak moisture of coolant every time i use it is it normal? Every use there is coolant moisture in the weep hole is it normal???? Please answer

Normally what I do is remove my fan belt and turn the bearing. I was getting ready to take a 1400 mi round trip. So I normally change the oil and for some reason this time I decided to check the fan belt. I carry a spare one with me but if it's bad I will replace it since I'm home. I was just goofing around and spun my water pump. It was all cranky. Not a drop coming out of the weep hole. I was very lucky back then the stores did not stay open that late on Sunday. Since it was a mustang with the 5.0 engine everybody has that water pump. Ever since that happened whenever I do maintenance on my cars I take the time to spend everything to make sure nothing is crunchy. When I replace my water pumps and hoses and belts I purposely buy this brand. It's something that's been around since I bought my first car and I always use your parts. I can honestly say I don't shop the cheapest price I shop for quality parts.

How much weeping per mile on 1999 camry with high miles >200k but last belt and pump done 80,000 miles ago. No noise. When engine is not running no drips. Hoses are solid.

Have a 2013 Ford Taurus with 140,000 kilometers. Had a leak coming from the weephole. Used about 4 liters of coolant in 3 months. Had to wait to get an OEM Ford water pump in. The water pump was functional but leaked. The mechanic said there is nothing noticeable in terms of bearing noise or any issue with pumps funtionality. However, it can fail it the seal blows open. Had it replaced cost $2000.00 That was cheap. Dealer and two shops quoted me $3600.00 CDN. Hopefully this engine will take me for another 100,000 kms. The car is great otherwise.

I'm just confused still, iv been working on cars my whole life and as soon as I see water from the weep hole, replace asap. But right now I have a 03 ram 3500 with a 5.9 and the water pump is maybe 6 months old and I notice a little durning the break In period but now I get like this this video says a few drips from the weep hole not enough to even hit the floor and it is intermittent. I would assume this is normal per this video? Or should I replace with a new? That's where I am confused

exact same situation 5.9 cummins with a gates water pump put on there 18k miles ago and i observe a very very slow drip of coolant. bought the truck used a month ago. should i leave it or replace it again?

@nicsye12 I don't know, it's funny because I called gates customer care, and the guy said if it was his he would replace it. I didn't replace it because I live in AZ and it's too hot to do anything outside. Still leaks every once in awhile it doesn't hit the floor. I see a small coolant drt drop on my sway bar but never hits the floor. So I don't know. Iv been running it and it has been fine

Water Pump was Squeaking was told by Toyota Mechanic to Spray Silicone Spray with Extension Into.weep hole and Squeaking Stopped 3 years ago.has not Squeaked since what is up does this need more lubrication again if Squeaking again

@ Gates Auto Aftermarket Looking at the outside of the water pump of a GM 5.3 LM7 motor on a 2000 silverado , where is the weep hole ?

Idk if this is too late, but right where the coolant fan is at and what drives it, which is attached to the water pump, you should be able to see a small hole (on ACDelco), that would be your weep hole. Weep hole is visible on an ACDelco (original part). If it's another brand, like the duralast, the weep hole is not as visible bc it's actually hidden behind the pulley that drives the coolant fan. I drive a 02 Sierra 5.3.

Hello What happens if I block the breather hole with silicone. My breather is on top and collects dirt and salt spray. The original one Cherokee 2005 had a plastic cap in the breather hole

Same with my Benelli TNT 1130R, it leaks a few drops of coolant after longer rides. I also felt that it's a leak from inner coolant seal.....I am also confused and afraid that this may damage my engine possibly mix with the engine oil some day. My bike is just driven 900km 😛.

Checked my Tundra a few days ago. There were two small drips of liquid on the front crossmemer and I was sure at the time they were coolant because of the pink color. Have not been able to replicate the coolant drips since then and pressure test comes out negative for a leak somewhere. I did install a new water pump recently because I also installed an replacement engine in the truck too. You think this could the new water pump breaking in? I can’t visually inspect the weep hole because it has a pulley on top of it.

That's what I thought. It stopped for a bit. Then it started leaking again. Now more so. Stick to OEM. Waste of money and I doubt Gates would refund me.

xxuncexx turned out it was the upper radiator hose clamp. I used aftermarket worm gear and they weren’t clamping tight enough. Switched to OEM spring type clamps.

whenever a car first starts the rotating seal will let a couple drips of water through before the pressure can make it water tight btw

Just replaced a Camry water pump Dayco brand massive seal failure after about 1 week after. Also replaced a Citroen c4 VTS water pump FAI brand and lasted about a week with yet another massive seal failure. Parts have gone to the dogs! Even this guy is trying to cover up leaks and say its normal to get out of warranties and then add an insulting edge to say "don't have a cry" tells me allot about this guy. I've seen 95% of water pumps running year after year without a drip or mark of coolant coming from the weep hole. New pumps should not weep anything at all and if they do, they are crap!

I have 2017 honda cb500x. After every long ride, i see some lil bit cooant on top of weep hole. I guess it normal and designed to work that way.

This is funny my brand new pump with less than 200 miles is leaking bad. I can't get ahold of the warranty department.

If the bearings get ruined it can make the pump seize. In return this can damage the engine if the timing belt is affected.

Nice try. If there is any drip out of the weep hole, then it has failed. Time to warranty out my chinese Gates water pump again....
