There were no patent laws in ancient times so plans and drawings commonly had flaws and inefficiencies hidden in them so those replicating the ideas would fail to produce the mechanism or have it fail function in a economical productive manner that justified the cost to build or operate.

Hello veproject1, I have a working model of a water-lifting machine, which is made from bone/ivory. I think it is prisoner-of- war work and if so, probably dates around the early 1800s. It depicts a man driving two oxen to turn a vertical pinion that drives the water-wheel via a contrate wheel. It is not for sale but I wondered if you would like a picture(s) to add to your archive?
