I would use autosol cream on the buffer. It would still shine the same without taking any metal off, but great way too I must say. Have a great weekend Eric.

Excellent video Eric. We don't see enough razor restoration videos these days. To get rid of the pitting, you have to start with some 400+ grit wet/dry sandpaper and start with the green compound and then work your way up to the white. A Dremel is worth its weight in gold when it comes to straight razors.
@AdventuresInWetShaving5 жыл бұрын
Stephen a Dremel is the quintessential straight razor tool for today! ;) Thanks for your great Tip for removing the pitting and for your encouragement, and thanks for watching! :) Take care and have a good weekend my friend! :) #Heart

Hi Eric, great tip about the fibreglass tip/pen for getting in those difficult spaces. I have just ordered three, brass, steel and fibreglass. I have always struggled with sandpaper but got the job done eventually, but this looks a lot easier.
@AdventuresInWetShaving4 жыл бұрын
Graham the fiberglass tip/pen is great for cleaning out those tough to get at places! ;) Yeah Buddy! I've never tried the brass or steel, please let me know how you get along with them. Yes man! You think dremel is not heating metal with blanket polishers? I have also used my dremel but lately thought about metal heating too much or not...
@AdventuresInWetShaving3 жыл бұрын
Great question Pekka! ;) This could transfer heat into the blade if you hold the polishing wheel on your blade in one place too long. However, if you are jumping around and not staying in one spot and have cold water handy to dip the blade into. You'll be fine! Thanks for your great question and thanks for watching! :) Have a good day, take care and stay safe my friend! :) #Heart

Essentially polishing is the grinding of the surface and making scratches smaller until they no longer are visible to the naked eye but if u used a microscope be a different matter

Would polishing the spine of the razor affect the flatness of the spine when honing reground blade if u get what I mean sorry if its a daft question I'm still learning I've only been full straight razoring a few months
@AdventuresInWetShaving3 жыл бұрын
Great question Gollammeister! ;) The affect would be very small, but yes... you just wouldn't be able to see it, unless you polished in the same spot or area for sometime. Thanks for your great question and thanks for watching, my friend! :) #Heart

Explain the thumb test when you take and pull the razors across your nails when i am sharpening it will cross with with some resistance from a when it is dry it' will glide smooth I also love Nevia aftershave

Great question Leslie! ;) When you're "Setting the Bevel" on a straight razor the stone should leaves a toothy edge along the entire length of the edge. This is how you'll know the bevel is set on your straight razor. Thanks for your great question and Nivea is always good! :) Have a good weekend and take care my friend! :) #Heart

@@AdventuresInWetShaving no but watched a lot of video from brad from Maggard restoring a Straight. I tried with my own razors and it worked out great. I started with 400grit and then moved. As lubrication I used wd40 while sanding, works way better than dry or water

How do you sanitize your razors ?
@AdventuresInWetShaving5 жыл бұрын
Great question Leslie! :) To sanitize when I get a razor I'll use soap and water! ;) Then to keep everything in good shape I'll use my razor wax which will keep the steel from rusting and it also sanitizes the blade as well. Thanks for your great question and thanks for watching! :) Hope you had a good weekend and take care my friend! :) #Heart

would a gait belt that they use in hospitals work for this?
@AdventuresInWetShaving2 жыл бұрын
Great question Jimmie! ;) From what I've seen gait belts are made from cotton, and that might work. However, you will need a lot more elbow grease to polish your blade than using a polishing wheel. I swear I have these same exact polish bars in my polish box somewhere in storage from when I was restoring my threewheeler from 2006. It's now sadly rotting in my brothers field after moving 4 times when I got married in 2009 and separated and divorced in 2019.😅 I know I have them and accessible I just don't want to look for them. I actually have a cloth in my medicine cabinet loaded with the white rouge for putting a mirror finish on my gold. I got some compound sticks from harbor freight but I don't think they are as good a quality. Shining up some neglected Dubl Ducks this weekend. I've already polished up 20 times with Mothers Aluminum and Chrome Polish and edged them good in the last month. Good times and some great shaves.
@AdventuresInWetShaving Жыл бұрын
Yes, Bobby I believe you are right production quality isn't as good as pre-pandemic. Hopefully, the quality standards will go back up in the future.
