do you use graph paper and trace for the original structure of the house?

Lori, I love Wisconsin. I spent some time working in Madison at the hospital as a traveling nurse. I am now retired and wanting to do watercolor. I have painted my house in Washington Missouri. I would love to do what you are doing on a small scale since I'm 72 years old . Can you give me some pointers on how you price your house paintings and how you get your name out there. Loved you art work. Best of luck with you painting. Sharon

Hi there! I started doing 8x10s at $75 and then move up from there. Now I'm around $100. Find realtors. I do a lot for them, and they give them as closing gifts.

Do you stretch your paper first?
@EhlkeArt3 жыл бұрын
Nope. I just tape it down around the edges.

I just love this! I’ve watched this several times and practiced, but the trees, grass and bushes are just not looking right. Do you mind telling me what colors you are using? And, if this video is somewhere else in a slower speed? Thank you!
@EhlkeArt4 жыл бұрын
I am using a yellow green and a sage green from Shinhan Pro watercolors. I don't have a slower one, but maybe can make one the next time I do a house commission!

@@EhlkeArt Click on the 3 stacked dots in the upper right hand corner of the video and select playback speed and there 3 slower options.🤗

Not to be too mosey but how do you decide how to charge and much do you charge? By the hour or size of finished project? How much would you charge for finished project?
@EhlkeArt4 жыл бұрын
Choosing a price is always tricky. I have a price list of what I currently charge here...docs.google.com/document/d/1PW0m2LUw0e1u9-z3gAcKlLgjdW5WQ8JqrLneUDbEzQ0/edit?usp=sharing I decide my prices on time, size, material costs, and years of experience.

This is so nice! So approximately how long did this take you to paint?
@EhlkeArt4 жыл бұрын
8x10 house portraits usually take about 2.5-3 hours total to paint. It's hard to figure out with drying time in there too. I usually work on a couple of paintings at once and switch between them.

do you trace the house to start?
@EhlkeArt4 жыл бұрын
I do transfer main lines of home first, then free draw the details. I love adding ink at the end of the painting, and I usually use a ruler to help make my lines nice and straight.

Love it. I want to paint my house and the biggest obstacle for me to start is getting it traced to watercolor paper (I've only been painting for a year). I'm not good at drawing so I was thinking about using a light box to trace the main lines. I've seen others using grid paper or measuring everything and that seems like a lot of work. Do you think a light box would work?
@EhlkeArt4 жыл бұрын
A light box can work. Or you can use graphite or carbon paper.

I really enjoyed watching your technique. In the future you might want to turn down the background music. I found it very annoying
