Full demonstration watercolor painting of Light, Shadows, and Reflections in Venice. Step by step watercolour tutorial.
My PATREON MEMBERSHIP PAGE: www.patreon.co... - in addition to ad-free content you get exclusive content (new videos will be more in depth than those on my KZbin channel), hi-resolution reference photos, photos of my finished painting, and drawing outlines where available. Other benefits are also included.
My teaching manual: Mastering Watercolors - A Practical Guide: amzn.to/3CgYQfB
I did this online demonstration for the Nepean Art Society, Sydney, Australia.
This video is of a typical Venetian scene with bright light, strong shadows, and lovely reflections.
I have been teaching watercolor for many years and this video is very much like one of my classes, with lots of detail explanation about colors, tones, brush marks, and the reasoning behind each stop.
It is a long video, so grab a coffee before you start!
I also have a couple of watercolor painting books which I published and distribute through Amazon.
The first one, which has sold over 10,000 copies is bascially my teaching manual and is titled:
Mastering Watercolors - A Practical Guide.
The second is full of step by step demonstrations and is titled: Watercolor Step By Step: amzn.to/3z4YXEu
Both books are available in kindle format and paperback.
You can also find a lot of useful information on my website: www.paintingwi...

Good one, Joe. At first I was puzzled by the juxtaposition of the yellow and shadow on the left hand building, but it worked beautifully in the end.

Thanks Rob, That is always the challenge for people viewing or students following along. The experienced tutor has a picture of where it is all going, but it doesn't neccessarily look right at the start.

Cordialement

I am glad you are enjoying my video. KZbin allows you to automatically select French translations. I suggest you do a Google search for the process and you should be able to find steps to take to activate French translations. Good luck.

Cordialement.

Here is how to do it. At the bottom right side of video select the gear icon “settings”, then click on “subtitles”, then select “auto-transtate” and select your language. I hope this helps.@@josies.3513

Cordialement

I loved watching you paint this lovely scene. Was the paper still wet from when you wet the back? I was amazed at how long you could carry on painting.
@JoeCartwright
@JoeCartwright 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, it was Irma. Though more damp than very wet. Sometimes it can take the paper hours to dry properly - unless I use a hair dryier of course.

Another great tute. General question: would this back wetting technique work if you used a piece of Perspex, glass or aluminium as your backing instead of the foam core board?
@JoeCartwright
@JoeCartwright 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob, Yes it would still work - maybe even better, not sure, though I must test it out. I like the light weight of the gator board, which is why I haven't experimented much.

@@JoeCartwright Reason I ask was that those materials are easier to clean so possibly lower chance of getting unwanted colours when you turn it over.

@@robweaver9953 That is a very good point Rob. I will have to try out my piece of perspex that I bought.

Hello again, I'm learning to watercolor and I don't know how to draw. Am I to assume that you are just showing us your Technique because we can't really replicate your drawing? Do you have any suggestions online where I might learn the basics of pencil drawing? Thanks Joe PS are you Australian or a Kiwi or am I totally off the mark?
@JoeCartwright
@JoeCartwright Жыл бұрын
Some of my other videos include the drawing phase of a demonstration. In this case, as it is a recording of an online demonstration I did for a local art society, the drawing had to be done beforehand, due to time constraints. The drawings are usually included on my Patreon Membership, but not on all KZbin videos.
@JoeCartwright
@JoeCartwright Жыл бұрын
You are right, I am Australian. :-) There are lots of how to draw videos onKZbin, I suggest you just search the term. If you look at my Pen and Ink work, I cover more about drawing there. The main thing about drawing is to get a pencil, eraser, and plenty of paper, and just start drawing.
