Brilliant painting, but how can shadows from post(left hand side) and fence (right hand side) go in different directions? Talking just from perspective.
@briennembrown59385 жыл бұрын
Thank you Tapas:) I am not a master of perspective, but if I understand where you are talking about, the shadow from the pole on the right-hand side goes up a hill and that will change the direction of the shadow compared with those on the flat surface. I might have made it too pronounced though. ;)

Curious what glue she uses to mount the paper on the gator board? Dry mounting perhaps?
@TobermoryCat5 жыл бұрын
I read that Gator Board is not an acid free material. Guess dry mounting using a heat activated archival plastic film in a hot press might therefore serve as a barrier but a hot press may affect the paper surface texture. Weighing up the pros and cons, perhaps simply using masking tape or gum tape stretching wet paper to a board prior to painting is still the better option long term.
@briennembrown59385 жыл бұрын
@@TobermoryCat ...great questions. I use acrylic heavy gel medium to adhere the paper to the gator board. This serves a a moisture barrier between the paper and board. It is not porous when dried, now I can't attest to what this does long term. But, I do have a friend that has been doing this for 25 years without problems. I just really love painting on this surface. :)
@TobermoryCat5 жыл бұрын
@@briennembrown5938 Guess it sorts buckling paper when working wet-in-wet so has its benefits. I've used archival pva a couple of times ( and dry mounted canvas to boards for oils) but not tried the acrylic gel as a way to stick surfaces to boards. Sounds like it would be good for canvas too. Nice idea, Thanks.

@@WokeSteve Interesting - but zero chance of my varnishing then cold waxing my watercolours instead of framing behind glass. Oil paintings are varnished with a top layer of removable varnish so its possible to clean them - but thats impossible with that process; chuck the paintings if they need to be cleaned.
