I would just like to quickly say: My first watercolor palette (besides a generic brand set I got for $5) was White Nights. Since then I've also tried Daniel Smith and Winsor and Newton. Honestly I think White Nights is better than both of them. They're super creamy and easy to rewet, they're extremely vibrant, and they're ridiculously cheap. Sure some of the colors are pretty opaque, and a lot of colors are made from multiple pigments, and maybe it's just because it's the first paint I started using, but it remains my favorite watercolor set, and I strongly recommend them.
@DRBEE664 жыл бұрын
A have a question. Why its bad a watercolor pan(or Tube) to be created by multiple pigments?
@StrawberryLegacy4 жыл бұрын
@@DRBEE66 It can sometimes cause unpredictable results when you mix them with other paints, plus generally the more pigments in a mixture the higher the risk of muddiness. Besides that, many artists simply prefer having the separate pigments on their own because that way they are much more flexible than when they are already mixed together in a certain ratio. Hope that helped!
@godzandheros4 жыл бұрын
I really like them too and I'm so glad they are finally expanding their range to include more transparent pigments.
@outtour25254 жыл бұрын
Same! I'm more of a oil painter but it do love watercolours for rough sketches and the easy portability factor to them and white nights is what I use and it's everything I could ever want cheap and cheerful, I use white nights for more bigger works and Van Gogh shades of nature to keep in my travel bag, still trying to get better at watercolour as I think it's the most hardest medium!
@tobeseve40204 жыл бұрын
@@DRBEE66 Basically, it makes it easier to mix colors together, as they're less likely to get muddy.

I’m so sorry you’ve had a rough time lately. I thoroughly enjoyed your updated palette tour and am so excited about your love of vintage tins! I bought maybe 10 vintage tins on eBay over time and then went to an estate sale recently and found a big box full of vintage tins - was really pricey $300! it had large vintage 48 half pan Schmincke set - lightly used and a well-loved 24 full pan vintage Winsor Newton set. You had to buy the whole box. I just couldn’t spent the $300, but the next day they decreased the price to $150! So I now have a large collection of vintage watercolor tins, some nicer than others, but plan to share them!cant wait for a video of your vintage tins!!! Paula from Florida

Hey, Denise, thanks for sharing your watercolor palettes with us, it's always a joy to see what you use and what your thoughts are about your palettes and paints. I'm so sorry about your dad, it's a difficult time to lose someone you love, not that's there's ever a good time. I was reading about how we as a society are suffering "collective grief" about the loss of so many souls and the other losses of financial security, routine and more. It can make healing both more difficult because the pain is so palpable and unavoidable, yet in some ways easier because you don't have to deal with everyone else's normalcy and happiness while you're grieving. There's also "collective guilt", guilt for NOT having lost someone, guilt for trying to be normal and happy, guilt for not connecting, etc, but we should try to hold on to some things that make us happy and able to function and enjoy what we can. Hopefully I got the gist of it, it helped me a bit to understand and accept my mixed up feelings, hope it helps others in a small way. We are a collective of In Liquid Color lovers rooting for you in all ways. Take care.

First of all, sorry about your loss. My current favorite watercolors are Sennelier, Lukas 1862 and Schmincke Akademie. I really like the Horadam, too, but the oxgall in them makes me not want to buy them and all I have left of them is a burnt umber. Maybe I get lucky and someone will gift me a whole set of them without asking me first.😆 I also like Van Gogh watercolors a lot. I have only ever tried European watercolors, and thinking about it, I should really give some American or Asian brands a try. I have seen a rather affordable starter set of Daniel Smith watercolors, and I think I will be looking into that next.

Oh man, that canvas palette set thing is amazing!! I need one. Desperately. I've been stuck on that compact White Nights palette since the first time I saw it, one way or another I'll be getting my hands on one... I want the square Schmincke one too but every time I'm about to buy one I back out because I just can't get over the unfinished edges on it. Love the form factor, but man does Schmincke need to step up their tin game. There really is no excuse for the unfinished, often sharp edges. My favourite palette is my Kuretake 14 pan travel set - I never thought I'd like a plastic palette this much, but it's got ample space for a couple of travel brushes and/or a pen, and most importantly it's got NINE mixing wells. I love it so much. I keep seeing art KZbinrs calling their videos silly and frivolous and I cannot stress enough how important silly and frivolous is right now. We'll be isolating for a while, we need all the help we can get keeping our mental health up. I know I for sure appreciate every possible distraction or I'll just spend all my time worrying about all my many, many healthcare worker friends. Silly and frivolous is saving my mental health (that's not hyperbole btw, I've had a severe depression for over a decade that had only just improved when this hit - I'd only barely started getting my life back together and am desperately clinging to my newfound non-depressed state).

@@FranciscaPires I'm glad you've not had to experience that particular brand of mess ❤️ I'm super loud about how important silly and frivolous is right now - probably because I'm more aware than most just how bad it can get when one's mental health declines, and how difficult it can be to get out of a depression once it's really gotten hold. Silly and frivolous is a super important preventative measure 👍 I'm safe at home, I'm lucky enough that my uni classes this semester actually ended by the end of March, learning to draw and maybe finish the baby blanket for my now six months old niece - I started planning it late February last year 😂

Thank you for sharing with us. I am so sorry about losing you dad and I hope you find peace in creating. I just signed up for Skillshare and I am so excited to learn more. I used to hate watercolor when I was young, but as I get older I am learning to go with the flow. You are never too old to grow and learn - thank you for your part in my journey 💜

Sorry to hear about your father, Denise... This was a lovely little diversion video, and a bit inspiring for me as I have been lacking it lately. In a good natured way, I covet those Beam paints. I love the sets. And yes you said Manitoulin correctly... It's one of my favourite places on the planet. I look forward to your review of them when you have the time. Losing a parent is so hard, now especially so I imagine. Take care of yourself, and thanks for the video. ... And YES I would love to see your vintage palettes as well. Vintage art supplies are a pet interest of mine.

So sorry to hear about your loss, what a very difficult time it is right now, its so hard to get anything done or really settle to anything. A difficult time for you no doubt. I have had a personal four year lock down! So this is no different to me except I had hoped to enjoy this spring more. People who can get out have told me that here in the UK the blossom is unusually heavy and lush and certainly the birds have been more abundant than in recent years, and there have been quite a few bees around even in this early spring time. I love anything about watercolours and they have kept me going through what seems a long incarceration. I marvel at those who think two or three weeks will drive them crazy. Anyway heres what your palettes inspired me to say! I have a rather old basic Cotman palette like your as well as a much newer 24 half pan set. I love the older one and really hate the new ones, so yet there are differences. I love the nila colori paints, have added a couple to their box of 12, could not resist the W&N rose madder genuine that fits so well into the colour palette, also the schmincke rather disappointing lapis, because it is so very different to the nila colori one and extends the range in a way that I think would be very compatible with traditional colours. I also have the little Kremer palette and love it for very specific uses, my white is a little odd on the surface but do not think it is unusable, this is deliberately the most transparent of whites and will dilute other colours brilliantly, especially the extremely opaque ones. I also have the most beautiful set of Kremer landscapes which I have added to to make a very unique colour palette, It has not full bodied red and no clear yellow, its just a gorgeous and very versatile natural looking selection! What to say about Szmal? I fell in love with these too!

I love DaVinci and your green is my favorite green! I use some Dan Smith, 1 W&N scarlet lake is everything, 1 Holbein shell pink, but mostly DaVinci. I did treat myself to schminke 12 pan set for Xmas and picked up the ones you recommended. I was kinda surprised that schminke wasn’t as nice as my DaVinci paint but ...I still use them lol. Love your videos and hang in there.

We missed you Denise! A new video made my day! I just gave a huge student-grade palette that I received for my birthday to a coworker of mine who was looking for a new hobby as I didn't need more paint. I'm really excited to hear how she likes it! She's never watercolored before.

The Beam paints look super cool. Love all your choices of palettes, brands, colors, etc. It seems to me you rehomed all your more crafter oriented palettes. I am sure the recipients were over joyed to receive new to them palettes of watercolor!

I cant wait to hear your thoughts about Roman szmal paints! They're my favourite and I'm so lucky to be living in Poland, where I can but them in a lot of places 😅☺️
