1) Your excellence as an instructor comes from your being able to analyze and anticipate a newbie's problems and how to avoid them. Many teachers seem unable to foresee the problems that beginners will have. 2) Such a valuable insight, that WCPs are a good way for newbies to gradually begin learning watercolour techniques.

It’s so true.While first starting out with Prismatic pencils, I pressed too hard on the tooth of the paper while using the sharp point. That in turn led to my being unable to blend. Michele’s tutorial helped me through my subsequent projects. So thank you.

I have a set of watercolor pencils and have played around with them a bit, but have never really been sure how to best use them. The most useful tip for me was applying water to the lighter penciled areas first. Also rinsing your brush when you're going wet-in-wet as not to get muddy colors. Great tips. Thanks!

My life long medium has been oil paint. I have never been comfortable with watercolor because it’s so transparent. I like working in layers. But my paintings would take weeks. I started using watercolor pencils 10 years ago as sketching pencils and then forgot about that period of my life. (divorce). Anyway , I recently came across those sketches and started coloring them in. I KZbind a bunch of watercolor techniques to deepen my skill and you are so far my favorite. I love the way you demonstrate and explain “why”. Thank you for you tutorials. They are very inspiring.

I think this is a VERY VERY helpful tutorial and I thank you. I started watercolour painting in January 2020 (before the whole pandemic) and I have no idea what made me want to try it but I’m glad I did, as I had some supplies before the whole world shutdown, so it gave me something to do. I’m not good by any means but it’s a distraction and so much fun. I also got a pack of cheap watercolour pencils that I thought I would try so you are really helping me on how to use them. Hi, my name is Madonna and I live in Brisbane Australia. Thanks so much for that very informative tutorial. I'm presently doing an online course on Botanical watercolouring. I've created my colourchart of Winsor Newton colours and am now studying leaves and creating little drawings. All my pencil marks are a little heavy but I think this adds another dimension. When i become more proficent I was wondering about transparency of colours. I purchased the Derwent pencils but wasn't sure on how to use them. I've really learnt a lot from you in only a matter of minutes. I've subscribed and look forward to the rest of your tutorials.

I enjoy watercolour pencils. I can paint with watercolours though. I painted a lot in my 20's and 30's and went to classes. I guess the background helped when it came to the pencils, especially as coloured pencils are my favourite medium. I do break the rules though. Provided the paper can take it with minimal crinkling, I will use both the paint and the watercolour pencils in "shock horror" colouring books. The thing that always let me down was my drawing. I was fine painting flowers and basic still life and landscape. But people? Nope! and flippin' perspective was and still is my nemesis. I don't have so much time now, so I don't want the stress of trying to draw something first so I have a selection of beautiful adult colouring books and I use the watercolour paint and pencils in them. Also acrylic and pastel. It's just a different technique. It's still fun and, to my eyes, beautiful. Hopefully you will be able to claim something from the government for lost income? Although I personally don't know anyone who fell into that category. I'm still able to work full time because I work alone.
@IntheStudiowithMicheleWebber4 жыл бұрын
Colouring books are very relaxing :-) Ah, I doubt I can claim, a few years back I made a loss, and set it against recent years profits... I don't look to governments to rescue me anyhow, and actually I am selling a few more prints lately, more people shopping online!

Hello Michele, Have you ever used the aqua brushes with your watercolor pencils? The ones I like are by Pentel, and they are wonderful for on~the~go sketching. I don't think you are able to do quite as well as with a brush, but it's wonderful if you don't want to haul a water bottle or container around. Due to illness, I'm not able to get out of bed on some days and it is really great to use watercolor pencils with the aqua brushes. Thank you for sharing your tutorial. I learned so much.

So thank you for having such a wonderful channel to learn from! I do have one question for you if you do not mind...I really like the brush you are using in your video! Would you mind letting me know which brand of brush is it? I have a ton of brushes in my collection but for some reason this particular brush looks very easy to use and easy on the hand and fingers...Thank you again and I cannot wait to watch and learn from more of your videos! The very best tutorial I have found for getting the most out of my Derwent and Prismacolor watercolor pencils. My problem is sharpening. The pigment breaks in various regular lead pencil sharpener‘s. knife blade sharpening is also problematic I have never seen this addressed In a tutorial. I tend to lose1/2 cm each time I sharpen (I save the bits for later use!) Any suggestions?

Hi Vincent, Prismacolor are somewhat known for breaking, and sometimes it can be out of your control, for example if the pencils were dropped before you purchased them, or a manufacturing fault can mean the 'lead' is off centre. I have one of those mechanical turn handle sharpeners and it's pretty good withy Derwent. Different brands will give different results too.
