Thank you Ana 🤗I understand, yes it's a little tricky with painting petals especially when they are so thin almost like paper texture.

Hi Maria I always find poppies a bit of a challenge, because of their distinctive 'papery' quality, I'm never satisfied with my results. But you make it look so easy 😊, and you're right, it would make a lovely card 👍🏻😊💕
@mariamorjane8 жыл бұрын
Thank you Harper 😊🌺😊💐You know what.. what if you used a paper towel next time... like I did, when I had a lot of paint on a petal and wanted to add that texture.. I used a towel.. cuz you said they have that "distinctive papery quality" so paint with a lot of water first, then more paint and press a paper towel, that really adds to a texture and helps to create what you were referring to? 😍💕🌹
@harpersmythe6588 жыл бұрын
Yes I'll give that a go, thanks Maria. 😊👍🏻💖

What brand of paint is the Brilliant Red? I am trying to figure out what is the closest color match would be in the Daniel Smith line or the Winsor Newton 'Artist' lines. Once I know the brand I can compare the pigments. I am trying to get where I can recognize paint colors despite their names.
@mariamorjane8 жыл бұрын
Hi :) You can try two different ones that are similar because the red itself has to be bright. I also mixed in Cadmium yellow hue in, but any lighter &warmer yellow will do. I don't really disclose name brands on my channel right now but if you would like to you can email me directly and I can give you more info. maria@loveoriginals.com Thank you so much!

New subscriber, watching you paint is such a pleasure - seeing the work change with the adding of layers & lifting of colour. I've only been painting (acrylics) about 6mths & watching watercolours purely for pleasure. You mentioned the rough paper being 'different' in this vid; I recently had a try at watercolours & was limited in what paper pads I could get in local stores. My paint did not behave on the paper like in any of the beginners YT tutorials I've watched, so I've just checked all 3 Watercolour pads I'd tried & they all say Rough Texture 300gsm - Should I be looking for something different?
@mariamorjane7 жыл бұрын
Hi Joanne, thank you so much and thank you for joining me here 🌺🌹☺️As a beginner rough maybe too much because it has a tooth to it, I'd go with a more traditional most common watercolor paper - COLD PRESSED. It's basically in the middle between Rough and Hot Pressed. You can't go wrong with this one and once you feel more comfortable with watercolors I'd say start practicing more with the other two. Its just so it's easier for you at the beginning cuz I believe you should still try all of the types of papers that are available. I'd invest in a very good quality professional paper too, it does make a huge difference!! I am not saying you should get Arches, because that's what I like but there's also Strathmore Cold Pressed, Canson but avoid the student Canson Papers, they are horrible 😆. Thank you Joanne btw if you go to my website www.mariamorjane.com there's a blog section where I talk about watercolor papers ☺️
@joannecarroll55047 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much for taking the time to reply so thoroughly. I guess I made the mistake of just buying what the label said "Watercolour Pad" in craft stores where there is never any staff to ask for help (there are no art stores near me), just coincidence they're all the same (or maybe I chose the the higher 300gsm thinking I was shopping for bed linen LOL); I haven't seen Arches brand here in Australia, but one of my pads is a Canson & my cheapest pad says German paper variety on it. Each one was more expensive than the previous - of course I thought I wasn't buying good enough quality each time & spent more the following time (- duh!) I'm going to have a good read of your blog, then I'll find an online art store with customer support to order from. Thanks again!
@mariamorjane7 жыл бұрын
Sounds good Joanne :)) I hope you find a good watercolor paper :) and your very welcome~!🌹🌸💜
@melissab30387 жыл бұрын
Hi Joanne! I too am a beginner watercolorist and after I tried all of the available papers, I ordered Arches cold pressed from Amazon and WOW! What a huge difference! Then I took an online class on CreativeBug and the teacher used Fabriano Artistico Extra White because she was doing all florals, so I ordered some of that and WOW! again. Both are great and I bought the watercolor blocks, not the pads and not loose sheets. Even if you buy the Arches pads or the Fabriano Artistico loose sheets, prepare to be amazed. Good luck and Happy Painting!
