To me, this piece is somehow totally melancholic and totally gentle, which are two words I wouldn't normally think of as coexisting. You can feel the raw sadness, but it's also.... A very approachable sadness? Something you step into to let it all out so you can keep going. The musical and emotional equivalent of a quiet storm; nothing is off-the-wall or shocking, but it's a necessary reset. A comfort, even though it's a sorrowful comfort. I think I re-listened 5 times already, and it's only been up an hour. Happily adding it to my "Brian Crain Favorites" list.
