"Pencil for shapes, paint for color." I'm going to try to really remember that, and use bolder sketches. Thank you for the advice 😊

The way you draw looks so effortless to the point it looks almost lazy, but the drawing still comes out beautiful

I am a costume design student who had to learn the medium of watercolor very quickly (it’s what my professor prefers and I had never painted with it before). Thank you for making these videos, they have taught me techniques that bring me success in my classes. I got an A this semester, thanks to videos like yours! Have a peaceful day 💕
Since I left my old art lessons to move to a new city, I haven't finished a painting. Watercolors had become my favorite to work with, and I missed doing it badly. A friend of mine recommended I come and watch this channel, and this really helped me to feel calm and hopeful about getting back to my painting-- I still have so much more that I can learn, and I'm excited to paint again. Thank you for becoming my new teacher.

My biggest takeaway from today's demonstration is that I need to RELAX when I paint! It's OK for it to be loose and more a suggestion of a subject rather than a super precise, hyper realistic work. Thank you for another great lesson :)
Ah, this is so helpful! It seems most tutorials I find want a very detailed sketch below, and it puts me off the idea of wanting to paint it. This seems so natural and spontaneous! I'm going to try it.

Trying watercolor is always so intimidating for me but I feel like this is easy to follow. Thank you!!
Aaah!! I could not stop grinning the whole video, I loved how when sketching you didn't lift your pencil once, and were confident in the shapes. I loved the contrasting colors, too, when using two different tones of a color. And the question corner!! I love it, made me smile until my face hurt. Thank you for another great video!!

Being reminded of not worrying about being precise with the colours helps. Thank you!
Oh, thank you so much for this beautiful video and artwork! I’ve wanted to practice with watercolour for so long now, but I spend so much time trying to get the sketch perfect that I end up with just the sketch, afraid I’ll mess up with the watercolour and ruin it. You have given me more confidence to not worry so much about making the sketch itself perfect and to just go with it :) thank you!❤️

I see how it works. Instead of using exact pencil lines, you can put more attention to the exact details, the idea can be distributed evenly and quickly, making the painting look unified (and not splotches of exact detail which would make it look messy.) I’m gonna try this! (Also, happy New Year, Grandpa Shibasaki! 🎆🎊🥳🎊🎆)
Thank you for the subtitles! It’s encouraging to see we don’t have to have a detailed sketch when doing watercolor. The colors will fill in details by themselves. Painting is less stressful for beginners when you don’t have to put great thought into drawing lines, only focusing on making something you can understand are flowers.

I'm always very detailed w my artwork, but when I do watercolor I try to do it more like you and let the colors define instead of the lines 🐰 it's out of my comfort zone, so it's good to do it! Thank you for the inspiration !!
Thank you so much! Ever since I started drawing and colouring, staying in clearly defined lines was so hard! And in this video you managed to soothe my fear/anxiety about colouring out of the lines! This is a beautiful video and you are a beautiful and kind man. Thank you so so much!

Hello! This is the first watercolor video of yours that I have watched. I have always used pastels and charcoal for my art, and I have always been very strict with myself with clean sketches, clear outlines, solid colors, etc. I definitely have issues letting myself relax and enjoy the process of creating my art. Instead, I strive for a 'perfect', end piece and in the last few years I have been so disappointed with my work as a result. Watching this video, I realized I REALLY need to let myself relax, let things be messy, and enjoy the process and see where it takes me. I know that's easier said than done, but while watching this, I felt such a joy and urge to grab my sketchbook that I haven't had in years. I don't have any watercolor supplies around, but that might change very soon. Thank you for the video, I really enjoyed it!

Hello, I discover your videos as you go along. I learned the essentials with you. Continue to share your talent and knowledge. Since then, I have only used one brush and have dared to paint pure colors. I "take a lot of my head time" with the quantities of water. I now know how to wash !!! Everything is simple with you. Thank you and see you soon. Take care of yourself
I’m glad I found this channel. I have been trying to get into watercolor. I enjoy that you don’t assume we know what we are doing and give simple and clear explanations.

I'm trying to learn watercolouring through these tutorials and...they help so much? Especially this video, cause one of the major things I struggle with is trying to make the entire picture look whole and unfied and Mr S' suggestions of using shadows and different colours really, REALLY helped with that. Another thing I struggle with trying to understand is how much water to mix in. How much is too much? Where to use less? How to balance it all out. Would be great if there could be a video explaining this. Thank you!
I really love how loose your brush strokes are! It makes the leaves very fluid

Starfruit-san, keep creating for its own sake! If there are times you need to take a paycheck job, you are not a failure. Keep painting! If you never have a career as an artist, just take commissions here and there or paint what you like, but you KEEP CREATING, you are a success. Love from someone old enough to be your mom.
