One more comment :) Just have to say I've been watching flower watercolor videos all day and yours is by far the best. You are a teacher by nature. You have a very calming voice and described everything perfectly. I hope you never stop teaching because you have an amazing gift and talent. More flower videos More flower videos!!!!!! :)))

Kylee Rose Aw thanks so much! Your comment really made my day! Thanks so much for the comment. I'll definitely make note that you want more flower tutorials. Today I was actually brainstorming for the upcoming weeks. I think you will be excited for some of the stuff I have planned. :) Think realistic things you find in the sea :) That's a hint for you.

Watercolor Misfit Yay that will be so awesome! I'm very good at acrylic but I'm just now learning watercolor. I would love love love if you did a video on shading too...I'm having trouble making my flowers pop with the correct shading (even though I think I know what I'm doing)...they just aren't turning out as good as they should. Can't wait to see more of your video..I'm already a fan!
@WaterColorMisfit9 жыл бұрын
Kylee Rose Thanks so much for your positivity! I love your comments so much! So happy to hear you like the videos! I've added shading to my list of tutorials that I will do in the future :) Here's some tips that I use for shading which I hope help you until then... Pretend you are drawing a ball. Then determine your light source. I almost always pretend my light source is coming from the right upper corner (sometimes I draw a small circle to represent where my "sun/light source" would be located. Now back to your ball. If your light source is in the upper right corner then your shading will be opposite your "sun" (shade the left and bottom sides of your ball. When thinking of a ball this concept is pretty easy. It gets really hard when thinking of petals which tilt and bend and let's all petals are really oddly shaped. SHADING FLOWERS: 1) First think of every petal as the ball...your shading will always be on the left and bottom sides of your petals (and typically that's all of them). 2) Think about where the petal might bend (if it has a "valley" there should be shading. 3) Think about where another petal may overlap another (So which petals are closer to you) once again on the left side of those petals you will show shading. I really hope this makes sense, it's hard to explain it in writing without showing you. So your idea of a shading video was great. Don't get discouraged as you're learning. It took me years to develop my shading skills and I'm still learning more everyday. :)

+Judith A Rowland I agree Judith- I am fascinated with those who use a pen outline and then put watercolor over it. ( Some say that it looks cartoonish to leave lines on a water color painting. Well , seeing this gorgeous example says it just ain't so!)

Love your poppies. The stems are just a bit bright but they work in your piece. Just wanted to point out for future videos that instead of using the word "contrasting," use "complimentary." Also, what you were explaining to viewers reminded me of what my art teachers used to say over and over again, "Draw what you see and not what you know." Great that you got there on your own. Love how vibrant the liquid watercolors are!

I love the fact that you use thicker lines to denote shading! Also your lines are so uniform. My lines tend to wobble a bit but I just gotta practice. Such gorgeous colors! By the way do you use watercolor pencils? Or colored pencils in general? I've gotten a set of prismacolors and I like to do shading with the pencils and then add watercolor paint to blend (usually a midtone shade.) more fully. Blossoming technique for the win! **I write comments as I am watching so their not as eloquent as they should be**
@WaterColorMisfit9 жыл бұрын
copingcolours Keep practicing with your lines :) You'll get it! When I first started my lines weren't exact either but with practice they have become better. As for watercolor pencils, I do use them but rarely. I typically use them for texturing my painting because the pencils can score the paper. Do you like your prismacolor pencils? I've never used them before, but have seen several youtubers use them. PS I love your comments! They always make me smile :D

GORGEOUS painting. I've watched this a couple of times, really enjoyed it. There is only one thing I'm unclear about. I don't think I understand what portion of what you were doing was a 'glaze'. Is that something else you are painting with, or the way you painted the last layers?
@WaterColorMisfit8 жыл бұрын
+LettieNugent.com Glazing simply means you paint one color, let it dry and then paint a new color over it. This is specially to watercolor and allows multiply colors to mingle together in unique ways on paper. It also is great for creating depths and intricate details without the painting looking heavy. :D I hope that helps.

Just FYI, I don't know why this is happening, but at the 10:26 mark on this video, I start to get two different audio tracks on top of each other. One sounds like your earlier commentary on the cross hatching. It goes on for about 10 seconds. I've tried it a few times, even closing and reopening the you tube app, but the problem persists. So I'm thinking it might actually be a problem with the video. Apart from that, is a great video, really helpful tutorial. I love what you're doing with the layering and using color theory in a smart way.
