I thank you for this amazing demo....where has this been all my life? Where have YOU been all my life!? I have been trying to convince myself that it is OK to push the conventional approach to watercolor out the window for a very long time and now I know why. I am greatly inspired by your work and I am excited to try this technique.....there are no rules in watercolor is my new motto! I actually gasped when you "lifted" the paint over the arch.......Then I smiled! In your opinion, is neutral tint a way for watercolor artists to use black without saying it? HAR!

Just goes to show that any watercolour rule can be broken. Fascinating to watch you. Thank you.

It was interesting to hear of Peach Black and to see sooooo much black used without everything being consumed by it; it's amazing to me that there is so much light and soft color shining through - wonderful artistry - amazing skill!!!!!!!!!!!!

My God! absolutely brilliant ! unbelievable how you have so effortlessly used the dreaded dark colours, without making it muddy i learnt so much today. thank you for this very much
@HornblowerArt2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Renu Dadu. No need to dread the darks, they give meaning to the light! The mud only happens when you mix transparent and opaque pigments. The opaques contain white and look light and bright in the palette, so avoid them if you want intense darks. If you’re not sure, check out the manufacturer’s colour charts. Pigments are usually classed as transparent, semi-opaque or opaque.

This was amazing to watch, in fact it was top class excellent. I loved the way you planned it out effortlessly without the dreaded fear of using dark strong colours. These dark interior subjects have a unique feel of warmth and character so very special to watercolour painting, which I should definitely explore boldly, and with more confidence especially after watching this. Thanks for a superb video Keith, inspiring stuff indeed!!

I’m amazed...speechless...you’ve made it look so easy, well at least MUCH easier than I ever imagined a dark subject like this would be to paint in watercolours - and yes, it is a beautiful painting. Can you please tell me, what brand of paper and what weight are you using? Thank you very much for sharing your process with us.

He says at 4:45 that it's Winsor & Newton 90lb rough 👍

wow, what a beautiful painting; love it !! I think it would be worth editing the video and shorten it though. It's difficult to watch for an hour and a half tbh. Also, why not consider post edit voice over instead of 'live' audio (I think Gary Tucker's videos are superb example). Anyway, this doesn't detract from the work Keith; absolutely stunning x
@HornblowerArt3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your observations Philip. An hour and a half is a long time; I demand commitment! 😉 I did this because people have commented on other videos, complaining about my edits and wanting to see the whole process in real time. But I agree that a post edit voice-over would work better. Next time!

Sorry, I just rewatched the video and remembered you saying you used Windsor and Newton watercolour 90lbs rough paper...
@HornblowerArt3 жыл бұрын
No problem Magdalena and thank you for your kind comments. I would usually use a slightly heavier paper, 140lb/300gsm, Arches or Saunders Waterford rough. Occasionally I use Two Rivers deNimes if I'm going to get violent. It's the toughest paper known to man! 😉
