That music was such a core memory for me. It was a wonderful experience as a kid and it all worked so beautifully. Thank you for the video I watched the whole thing and it’s incredible to pick out all the details and instruments. It inspired me to join band as a kid and learn music.

Richard - this song is my earliest musical memory, in fact I think we are the same age. Pre-internet I used to reminisce about how awesome both the segment and music were, (it's been in use as my internal soundtrack for decades) and then one day I found it on KZbin. This video, however, tops them all!! Thank you from the bottom of my heart for making the best freaking song ever ❤️

In case Mr Harvey is still reading these comments, I’d like to add my name to the requests for more vids from him. I actually know his music from a couple of different places, namely Motor Roller which was featured on Jigsaw (early 80s BBC show. Also, several nifty fingers tracks made it onto the Channel 4 testcard back in 1982. Loved it all as a kid and it took decades to find out what it was. That’s the beauty of library music - anonymous, but when it gets picked up, it goes viral!

It was wonderful I grew up in the 80s when US manufacturing was still part of a child's education both on Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street. Kids these days are largely clueless as to how things are made and what is involved. The music is brilliant - I still think about it often from my childhood.

Thank-You so much for reconstructing this wonderful music. Brought a little tear to my eye to hear it in such clarity. The fact that it's stuck with me in the back of my mind since the age of 4 is really quite something. I feel sorry for kids today that don't have the same quality programming that we did. Great music is absent today from kids lives in just about everything.

Amazing, seeing this and its deconstruction! It took a lot of fans years to figure out where this came from. Speculation was, it that it might be something Joe Raposo did, though it really isn't his style; for Sesame Street he tended to do a lot of ragtime. The entire "Nifty Digits" album is amazing, especially considering you played ALL the instruments. I can listen to that music endlessly, as with the Gryphon stuff; too bad I wasn't alive in the 1970s to hear it all when it was new.

Amazed to find this. I knew Water course from Channel 4 trade tests. Always a unique and fascinating piece. Festival (a & b!) was another very distinctive track, which often seemed to turn up in promotional use at Christmas. It would be lovely to hear that broken down in the same way, as Exchange, as again there seemed to be so many different instrument sections. Oh and, of course, Motor Roller which always surprised with its radical combination of prog-renaissance - I had often wondered if it was recorded in different sections and then hard spliced, since the 16 track must have been straining and bouncing for all the different instrument groups it used. A real joy to see this! Thank you

Thanks for sharing this. No wonder I eventually grew into liking 'progressive rock' and such types of music. I enjoy these 'behind the scenes' presentations, taking the song apart track-by-track and detailing how it all came together into such a memorable piece. I hear bits of synth pop, classical, and medieval-style folk all brought together. And like most others, for me, to think it all started with that film about 'How Crayons are Made' on Sesame Street.

Well I am certainly 100% interested Richard and that was a purely awesome demonstration. Ever since I heard the first Gryphon album back in 1973 when it came out I was totally hooked on the band and it's musical style of medieval folk and all its progression thrown along its path. I have to say I was not even aware you actually wrote this piece of music and it's the first time I have actually ever heard it, and for me it says exactly what the band Gryphon said to me and spoke very highly to me. You are one hell of a musician and by seeing this demonstration your very much a very talented multi instrumentalist at that. I will have to check out your solo material chap because if you have an album of this stuff boy have I missed something here, and I am hoping it's still available to buy, cause this rocks my boat 100%. I very much have all the Gryphon albums and I can assure you they still give me the same amount of pleasure they gave me back in the 70's and its music that will never die for my ears and stands it's test of time very much so even today, and it's still never far away from my turntable so to speak. That stuff can even brings tears of joy to me and fills my heart with tremendous pleasure. I recently visited the Gryphon website and was amazed you guys are planning to go back out again live this year. I very much missed the last one off show you guys did back on 2009 and was kicking myself to death as I could not afford to make that trip at the time. But I m eagerly awaiting news of when and where these shows will take place, and thank god it is going to happen again so I can get to see you guys live. I noticed this video of yours here pop up on the Gryphon FB page, and immediately checked the Gryphon website first to see if there was any news of the live shows. None at all I see so far, and so I watched this demonstration and have to say I am completely gobsmacked by it all. Terrific stuff Richard and yes please do more mate...

This is incredible. I was a big fan of the music in question and tried very hard to locate it, long before the internet was at the point where it could actually be of help in that search. (Now of course I own the album.) I can't tell you how gratifying it is to see an artist who is proud enough of their work to go into such detail of its inner workings. Very often I have been frustrated by the phenomenon of composers being uninterested in something they did so long ago, or in a fan's appreciation of their work. Bravo, sir, and many thanks for doing this. I echo earlier sentiment about interest in the individual tracks. Especially the Jupiter 8 - I was always very fascinated by the extreme complexity of its brief cue.
