@misanthroposy Don't be to quick to judge. His playing is incredible but it is obviously not meant to be something in the Rock/Pop/Metal category. Check out my TOOL covers which use overdriven effects and delays to emulate modern bass/guitar tones with a tapstyle intrument. Make no mistake, these are extremely versatile instruments. I know what you mean. It has an awful tone and sounds like elevator music. I know Greg Howard and Keith something rather has wicked tone. They use effects alot though. you can make these instruments sound awsome with effects like distortion or reverb.
