Watering / Overwatering Bonsai Trees in Autumn

Its autumn and its been raining for several days, which makes us think about how to water bonsai trees in autumn. We answer questions such as do I need to water bonsai trees in autumn and can bonsai trees get too much water or be overwatered.
We'll have a look at how the bonsai soil that you use affects how trees perform in the wet weather, finding that good, open, free-draining soil mixes help bonsai to fair better.
We also look at moving trees into the greenhouse and when to do this.
Finally, we'll briefly touch on the need to care for different species of bonsai trees in slightly different ways.
The video has been recorded over the course of serval months, from spring to autumn.

Thanks Adam, at my age there's no problem constantly checking my trees, nowt else to do nowadays. As for soil mix i rely on All Things Bonsai since I discovered you and have transplanted a few trees in early Autumn using the bulk buy I got from you and Jude. Both Podacarpus still outside and doing well, will move the new one into the unheated shed once the temperature really drops, the original has been permanently outside for at least 10 years so will give it more shelter after your restyling but stay outside.

maybe a stupid question is it possible to fake a out of time spring for a tree by takeing a tree in to the house and putt a plant light on? I´m at the beginning of bonsai hobby and I startet with a willow. obviously because of the growth. in summer it dryed a littele bit to much and after that there came spider mites and the roots where tangled. it was in a bad shape and today i repottet it without any root cutting. has anyone a tip or trick for me to rescue it? I´ve growne it from a cuting about 1-2 Millimeter till now thumb thickness over around 6 years. (i could cry and sorry for my englich)

Hi, it’s possible yes but maybe better not to try to do it. The tree needs to rest in winter. It is healthy for it. Best just to keep it outside or in a cold greenhouse until spring. The summer was very long and hot, so many trees suffered. willow is a strong tree so I hope it will recover on its own

Its literally impossible to over water a bonsai if you have the right substrate
