I learned to sew on my mom’s 1952 Featherweight. Such a sturdy little machine! I recently inherited it and am looking forward to getting reacquainted with it once again. You have quite a project there! Thanks for sharing it!

I am excited to see what do with this. I love my featherweights.

Thanks. They are fantastic machines. Although I do admit, I don't normally work with electric machines so this will be fun to learn.

Great video, loved the storytelling the clarity of the video, the sharing, so much to like... please be very careful when working with mold, it is very dangerous and can have grave complications. Gloves and face mask when working with these oldies but goodies🎉🎉

Hey Crowing. I watched your video and your cautious approach to diagnosing the potential mechanical issues is great. For the stuck parts try using a penetrating oil such PB blaster or Kroil, though any penetrating should work. If you do not have access to penetrating oil you can use WD40, it can work as a penetrating oil as well. Use the penetrating oil as you did the sewing machine oil, spray it on and let it sit for 24 hours if the part is really stuck. I would test any of these products on a hidden area that is painted as they may damage the paint a little. If you need to pry on any of the steel parts and you do not want scratch it try using a brass awl or a brass drift/punch. You can also find small brass ball peen hammers that would be great for working on this type of equipment. I hope this helps and I look forward to seeing the next video. Good luck!

You can order a new felt for the bottom tray. Much easier than trying to make one. The little square metal thing is the feed cover plate to cove the feed dogs.

I have restored many featherweight. And many other vintage sewing machines. But mostly singers

First move should be wash the machine down with pressure pak dewatering spray, Soak any stuck screw or fitting on the machine with dewaterer. Do not use oil, this can effect future finish. Second strip box (care not to spread the mold everywhere) and wash down every part thoroughly with methylated spirits. Then leave in filtered sun for a week or two to dry, any warped boards place heavy weigh on, or clamp flat. (wear a face mask for the mold) Separate every part and remove all hardware. (everything will be rusty underneath ) Then the work starts.

Really good tips. With most machines, I'm not looking for a full restore, so a simple wipe and oil usually does the trick. But this one has had a much harder life.

This video is só good (to me), it needs more than one thumbs up! Most of all I like your way of story-telling. Do you have a Permies-thread on this video too? I'll go and see ...

Thank you, your comment means the world to me!

I bought a wet one just like yours. Unfortunately the guy selling it threw the case away. I got mine completely freed up and running. I haven't fixed the paint chips yet. I had to buy a new foot pedal the original was too far gone but the rest of the machine cleaned up and went to work. Oh I replaced the rubber belt too. Once I got mine sewing I put it up and haven't touched it in 6 years. I like pfaff too much.

OMG - did you ever get the parts moving?

yes and no. Hoping to get the next video out this spring.

Sray olive oil into the bobbin case and after s day or two the oil will rot away the bobbin thread enough for you to remove the bobbin . This doed work as I have done it

I would give the oil time to work. Sometimes it takes time for the oil to penetrate.

Oil is fantastic stuff. But patience is the hard ingredient to find.

I'm unable to find any follow-up videos of this machine can you tell me where to find links to more recent progress.

It's coming. It doesn't have the result I expected, but it's filmed. I just need to put it together.

Without watching to the end I posted a comment - and then watching a bit more thought "No, no - she doesn't need me to point her to those things, she's finding them herself" so I deleted it again. I must learn to watch all the way through and then comment! Sorry. :-)

WOW! That's really a treasure you found! Was it buried in a bog?

Such treasure! I'm not sure about the bog. I am hugely grateful for the person who dug it out and passed it on to me.

This machine can definitely be restored. I have restored far worse than this one😊

I have the same stuck bobbin case. I was hoping to find the solution here. I have applied sewing machine oil liberally and waited for 1 day. Nothing. Bobbin case turns, I just can't remove it.
