Dental hygienist here. I use the WaterPik, in addition to standard flossing, and recommend it frequently and was able to get some great tips from this video. I like the idea of filling the reservoir twice and the lips closed for a less messy experience. Definitely will be adding that to my patient instruction.

A really good product...it prevents the build of even the smallest amount of plaque-provided that you still brush your teeth regularly. I use it after the last meal of the day . After using this I do only drink water until next the morning. I brush my teeth in the morning plus mouth wash -somewhere during the day at work( ca 1 hour after lunch) and then about an hour after dinner-or whenever I have the last meal and beverage of the day.

I guess you can use both string and the water floss for double assurance. Nice video, but you forgot to tell people as you use this particular unit that there is a pause button on the handle to stop the water from flowing as you pause to spit. They should have designed it so that you press the button to make it flow, not the other way around. Just got mine and I like it so far, but still a little uncoordinated using it. If you put some mouthwash into the water, it makes your mouth feel so much fresher.

This is totally different than my periodontist trained me to do. Use a flexible small rubber tip. And move it slowly along the area between teeth and gums, spending extra time between teeth. Keep the pressure around 3, or it can damage your gums. Water temp is personal preference. I like it hot. It cools down quickly while going through the tubing.

I can't understand why people are saying that when they first used this unit they made a mess of their bathrooms. Surely it's common sense to keep your mouth closed when using any water floss. Another thing instead of pushing the tip to one side while you spit, why not just turn it off using the on off button on the handle and save water. All these water floss units need are a little common sense.

Thanks, for your video. I would like to add more info about using the Waterpik. Your comments would be appreciated. Maintenance and Use of The Waterpik (12-2018 ) Note: Follow the instructions before first using the Waterpik. 1. It is recommended that you plug the unit into a GFCI protected receptacle to prevent electrical shock. 2. Warm water is recommended. Water from your water heater may have contaminates. Use filtered water that is at room temperature. Do not add anything else but water to the water tank. 3. The Classic Jet Tip is effective for general use. The Pik Pocket Tip is more effective and is recommended at the 1 - 3 settings. 4. Just before using the Waterpik, point the tip in the sink, turn ON the unit and let water flow into sink, to get rid of existing water, then, rinse the handle and tip under water. 5. Do not run the unit with no water in the water tank. 6. The Waterpik can be used before brushing your teeth or after. String flossing is recommended. 7. After using the Waterpik: a. Rinse the handle and tip under water. b. Remove the tip and store it in a dry location, such as, behind the water tank. c. Remove the water tank and turn upside down to air dry. d. Push the button on handle to ON and lower the handle and hose below the unit and allow the remaining water to flow out. Use a container to catch the water. e. Store the handle inverted in its’ storage case. f. Unplug the unit from the electrical receptacle. 8. It is recommended that ONLY one person use the Waterpik. ( Tell children to NOT use the Waterpik unsupervised. )

This device is going to be used by someone who is blind, so what Accessibility is there on the unit to determine the pressure range? In other words, one click equals the next pressure level all the way up to 10. Also, what kind of tactile marking might be on the reservoir for helpful to fill it? The clicks on the dial would be heard, as well as possibly felt by the user.

The researchers found that the group who used the waterpik had a 74.4 percent reduction in plaque as compared to a 57.7 percent reduction in the group who used the string floss. Other studies also found that people who used water picking saw a greater reduction in gingivitis and gum bleeding as compared with string floss.

Mr Brownstein, what about the air-water jet that they use on the patients in the dentist chair? That seems so much more effective. It too is a continuous jet, but of both air and water. I guess it would be expensive to buy tho.

That's an interesting question from A-DSplay/YuGiOh101. Flossing with mouthwash? It might get expensive though, I would think ? Maybe diluted mouthwash.

Thank you so much. The only decent vid I've found for guidance on using my waterpik ultra that I received today. There was quite a lot of blood, is that normal?
@fortnightable
@fortnightable 9 жыл бұрын
taekwondochick32 You similarly get blood when manual flossing for the first time. Over time your gums gain resistance; it is recommended to gradually turn up the pressure over the course of two weeks to a month.

No, it's not normal. Blood means it's necessary to do an ultrasonic scaling to remove the calculus between your gum and teeth. Go see a dentist.
