Before and after the Romans left Britain the island mainly spoke Welsh/Brythonic. The Saxons Germans/English invaded and the Welsh/Brythonic people were pushed to the west of Britain by invaders. The lyrics are old probably after the Norman (French) conquest in 1066.(Wales never fell to the Saxons or vikings) If there was a King Arthur he would of been Welsh/Brythonic.
