Waterworks! Best Kid / Beginner Mountain Bike Trail in Ladera Ranch, Mission Viejo

Waterworks is one of the best trails in Ladera Ranch / Mission Viejo / Orange County for kids and beginners! Mostly flat with a few little hills and dips. Beautiful scenery and just all-around fun with some small jumps and features for mountain bikers of all skill levels. Parking is convenient and there are a couple different ways to get onto the trail.

Thanks for the tips! My kids are 7 and 8 and have been riding since 5 as well. What is the road you take to get back to the start? A fire road?

You’re welcome! That’s great, they’ll love this run. Yes it’s a fire / maintenance road and then it turns into a paved road for the last portion. It helps to have a tow rope to get them up that part since it’s a bit steep.

You can park at the Santa Margarita Water District parking lot, right off Oso and Antonio Parkway. Then follow the directions to the trailhead in the video. Have fun!

How far/steep is it going Back up the main road to oso?

The road is paved, probably about 200 yards long and it’s pretty steep incline…a bike with gears can do it but single gears would have to walk it. I have an e-bike so I tow my kids up it. 👍🏼
