Nothing stays the same is a video of Watford High Street. The town where we grew up. Watford in Hertfordshire England. Combined with some old photos. Derek lived just a few steps form the High Street, the house no longer stands to make way for the new road. So this video means a lot to us.
This video has had no end of copyright issues so unfortunately we have muted segments. All music used is copyright free from KZbin, iMovie or iTunes.

I used to live in Watford and I walked this street so many times. It’s nice to see how it changed since then. Thanks for this lovely trip down the memory lane.

Carlton cinema, Clements, old fire station, Gaumont cinema, town hall roundabout, Cassiobury Park gates, market behind Cawdells, Odeon cinema, House of Bewley that sold pipes, slaughter house in New Road, almhouses, Rose and Crown on the corner of Market Street, New Penny disco, Albert Street, Carey Place, all them pubs in the High Street, Dunns menswear shop, etc, etc. I could go on and on. As a boy I had a lot of freedom and Watford town centre was my world. Thanks for the video.

@@CarolandDerek Ah The Crescent. Memories come back of the bottling hall of Benskin's and people working there. There was a public toilet in Crown Passage next to HeadHunters. Saturday morning pictures at the Elsoldo cinema in Kings Street, Pope's Jewellers and that tiny sweet shop in King's Street. My mother was a staff nurse at the maternity hospital. Watford fields school. The memories.......

I lived in Watford for 10 months in 2019 and I miss it so much! I wasn't born in the UK but I miss it more then I miss my own country. How I wish I could turn back time and do some things differently. I will definitely visit Watford once more, it's just a matter of time. 😭😭😭

@@CarolandDerek Now I live in Germany, small city near Bielefeld. I like Germany as well, it has it's perks but I like the UK more because I speak the language perfectly and the people are much more socially friendly. No offense to the Germans but that is the truth, Germans in small cities are not as friendly. The most I miss about the UK are the pubs, oh god how I miss The Moon Under Water in Watford High Street! I had some great times in that place every weekend. 😉😉😉

It’s nice to see that with Trewins , John Lewis & Clements gone , at least there’s still a bit of “old Watford” there in Jacksons the jewellers . I’m consistently amazed that the tacky “Situls” is still there , we used to go in there as kids cracking on 40 years ago now to check out the poster section in the back of the shop . Other old much missed shops include Mary Roses Toy Shop in Charter Place , and Beatties . HeadHunters there near the end , I was only in there 2 days ago , the legendary Mario retired a while back , he must have cut literally every bloke in Watfords hair at some point 😄

I can hardly bare to watch this. Generations of my dads family lived in and around the town and in Ricky. I grew up when the town was still lovely before the ring road was pushed through and that awful flyover went in. I guess nothing stays the same but it’s not a patch on what it once was. Interesting to see a lot of old buildings have survived but my god the Parade with its pond and trees that were once around it looks so bleak now.

@@ianpeddle6818 it’s the same in most towns, we filmed in Aldbury a few weeks ago and if you watch it you will se although not much has changed in the structure. There were so many cars parked around, it made us feel a little sad. We film these places now as little time capsules. As you say nothing stays the same. You need to understand we lived in Watford 25 years ago and that video was more about use remembering what life was like back then. However it is 15 miles outside of London and the London Underground goes from Watford High street and Watford Junction right into the city. We have no idea about the cost. But anywhere inside the M25 ??? But we loved it back then. Good luck 🤞 and keep safe 🌈🙏👍
