Watsomba is a growth point centre 42 km outside Mutare, along the Nyanga road. It is within Mutasa District, surrounded by farms and communal lands. A lot of people from Mutare (3rd biggest city) are buying stands here and building large houses. With its proximity to the city, it is an idea place to live and raise a family. There are a few wholesalers, grocery shops and a lot of vendors. The local farmers are producing tomatoes, nuts, beans, onions and other fruits and vegetables, which are then simply sold on the highway.
Rumour has it that Watsomba started off as a bar for local farmers, along the main road. This bar was called Watson Bar, therefore over time and translated to Shona it became Watsomba. Apparently this is how the name of the area came about.

No more kombis going to Mutare? That's a pity. It's 40km to Mutare. In the late 90s, travelling from Watsomba to Selbourne, Nyanga, Honde Valley or Mutare was relatively safe and easy because there were so many buses and mini buses plying that route.

Kombis were stopped by the current gvt. They introduced Zupco large buses in the city, but nothing in rural areas like this. So small cars have come into play. But Kombis have been allowed back since buses didn't work. But it just depends on the route if they have enough kombis. Pple do prefer the smaller cars which are faster but more risky.

@@sinyoroabroad2851 The mini-buses from Zupco, Matongo and others were fairly swift and comfortable to travel in. Companies have standards and procedures. Individuals don't.
