@wattlesplays I think they should be restricted to the following biomes. Forests, Birch forests, Rppfed Forests, Plains, Sunflower Plains, and Rivers. In these biomes, therr would be key differences. In the summer, they'd stay the same. In spring, they'd all have much more flowers blooming, with higher chances of bonemealing the ground sprouting flowers if it's spring! In autumn, the leaves of oak trees would become orange, dark oak trees would become red, and birch trees would become yellow! In winter, the grass would change to a lighter color, and snow could even fall, but not form layers of snow to keep builds from being griefed. Also, Ice could form in Rivers, being a source of ice in early game worlds!

As much as I loved seasons on Better Minecraft, I'd rather them just be cosmetic because having to deal with farming when crops wouldn't grow or would pop out of the ground because it was too cold is just not something I want in vanilla Minecraft. Like longer days/nights maybe being the only game changing thing could be cool... Having more than just thunder storms or leaf types change colors and textures would be cool

Likely the "SeasonFoliageTexture" would have something to do with leaves turning orange or falling off in the fall, being dead in winter, and blooming in spring, with the texture changing accordingly. Deciduous leaves would fall off, evergreen leaves would stay on, etc. That's how I'd do it if I was developing this.

Honestly, while i would love a seasons mechanic in the game, i have the feeling that it would mostly be a visual effect. Back when Jens was explaining the addition of the lightning rod, he said that changes in the players world should be, in some facet, caused by the player. Tho, seasons affecting stuff like crops would really make the game much more of a Survival game

I would love for them to make the seasons affect the gameplay, but only if you play on hard mode since they don't want to change the players world without them being able to do anything about it, this way it would only happen if you choose to play on this setting

@wattlesplays honestly, one thing I would like to potentially see is crops having specific biomes or climates where they grow slightly faster. Like maybe pumpkins tend to grow a bit faster in colder biomes like taiga, or maybe carrots growing a bit faster in warmer biomes. Just something small that allows for players to spread out their farms if they desire more of that crop. (Could also lead into more crops being implemented ;) )

From what I've heard about the sand layers, Gnembon was testing the getting up animations for Camels on different block heights, and retextured the snow layers to match sand - for some reason.

I think implementing seasons into Minecraft would be a bit tricky, since something to remember is that it's not specifically a survival game anymore. It's a sandbox game with survival elements as the "main" gamemode. You've got stuff like servers and custom maps. Games like Stardew Valley have seasons which restrict certain features unique to those seasons, such as what items you can find in the wild, which crops can grow, and what types of fish you can catch. Maybe, in the slim chance they add seasons in the future, they could have it be a toggle when creating a new world, like the "standard" experience being what it is now, or a "deluxe" version with seasons. It could incentivize players building houses in different biomes to change between seasons, like a desert during winter or a taiga biome during summer.

Getting seasons in Minecraft would be great, we need more ambient related updates in Minecraft, this is why I am so glad mountains won the biome votes a few years back. However more than anything I want a Graphics update, its been 15 years and Minecraft’s graphics haven’t changed much since release 1.0. I want an update that makes light sources produce actual Emissive textures and real-time shadows, reflections etc.

I had a game with friends a little while ago were I found tree leaves that were white with snow on them, all the trees in that biome were white even without snow, though the next time I jumped on they were normal again, this was on a friends bedrock server and only I could see it apparently still dont know what caused it

The thing about seasons is thatvit shoulf also apply to unloaded chunks by some way, since it would be wierd if you spent half of the winter at your base and then you had sudden cutoff of snow when you enter chunks that were not loaded during this time

My problem with seasons in Minecraft would be what you demonstrated with that one mob a bit ago. It's updates. Your in full fall in these chunks, but right on the edge of your render distance, those chunks are summer n lush. The only way I see mojang getting around this, are three things: 1: instead of changing the blocks themselves, make it a rotating texture pack. So that the world's textures update all at once. Snow layers accumulating/melting would still have to be updated by chunks, but idk, wouldn't be too bad I guess 2: limit seasons to a single biome 2: or make it a dimension thing

It's entirely possible that the seasons thing is just a reworked color map system for Biome tints, currently it's extremely inefficient on bedrock edition especially for resource pack creators. Even in vanilla, sometimes the side grass texture doesn't even match this color of the top. As cool as it would be to have seasons I'm pretty sure this is what it is.

I have wanted seasons in minecraft forever. I mean they can add as much as they want in a seasons and weather drop. I hope for better snow (like snow falling on top of stairs and stuff like flowers as well, giving them special texture), footprints in snow, crops being destroyed in winter, sleds, campfires giving some buffs in winter season, etc. and then, a shorter monsoon season with thunderstorms happening frequently leading to increased skeleton trap spawns etc. fall season with changes leaf textures and actual fallen leaves.

Also, in the Eerie Mojang Office Party server thing they’re doing for an event, in the biome labs there are two biomes which they’ve described as ideas that they’ve considered. How “considered” these are is unknown, however the “Goodlands” thing they showed off really takes my interest in this regard. It features a rainbow, and also the Cacti look reminiscent of the desert biome vote cacti. Maybe this biome or something similar is the focus of the next drop?

I'm not sure I want seasons necessarily. I think you could achieve the same with biomes. One called the Autumnal Forest where you can plant trees to get the bright red, orange and yellow leaves from current trees, then harvest them and bring them back. Spruce, azalea and pale oak maybe being exceptions. Then adding new leaf textures that are lesser when planting in current snowy biomes so you can harvest those as well. This encourages exploration still and allows you to keep and use those seasonal things all the time in your world.

it would be cool if affected somehow all biomes and not just being one biome that has a season effect, for example, if its winter the cold biomes snow fall more frequently and it stats building up layers of snow faster, if its summer the layers of snow melt and slowly disapear until there is only one or it rains more in forests and jungles, if its spring or fall the crops grow faster and animals breed cooldown is lower, maybe some other apearance changes like the colors of the leaves like wattles mentioned or maybe even new events tied to seasons and specific biomes like the frog rain from Dont Starve that only happens during summer

Gonna be honest, I really don’t want a seasons update. I do like some of the features like the grass changing in some biomes to look different and autumn in Minecraft would be sooooo amazing, but I feel that it would defeat a lot of the purpose of having unique biomes. The biggest thing for me would be any foliage like leaves and bushes I use for aesthetics on my builds. If they change, it might not fit the look I’m going for in my build anymore. And if they do add something to prevent that from happening, I’m struggling to think of what that could be and, to me at least, it would feel a bit tedious to acquire and use said item. If people want snow, wouldn’t they just build in areas with snow? When I build in a forest, I don’t want my environment to change because it may affect the way it looks. I also think it wouldn’t encourage exploration as much because some things like ice and snow would be more available to you by just waiting instead of going out to find the snowy and ice biomes. Also, how would those biomes change? I think biomes could use some more ambiance and a bit more foliage, but I don’t think they should change with time. Maybe add different textured/colored grass blocks per biome that can be picked up with a silk touch shovel to maintain that color/texture. I’d love to see an autumn biome with red leaves and whatnot. And I would definitely love a weather update with deserts having the ability to have sandstorms. If they do a seasons update, I hope they have the ability to at least turn it off or heavily modify it.

Well... Slicedlime recently released 1.21.4 update for his seasons datapack. And on twitter, when asked if there any chances of seasons beying added into vannila, he said "No." Usually he ignores questions like that, or says "I cannot disclose anything about updates", but he clearly stated "No."

I would love 100 or 125 day seasons. But if they did it I would hope they made it functional. During spring and summer crops grow faster. Fall and winter crops grow like they do now. Never let the season punish, just help. Snow fall would disappear as the season ends.

Seasons can be an amazing change, depending on how they treat it. The tint of the grass and leaves could have a slight change. They already have that for snowy leaves, and id love to see burch trees turn pretty colors as the oak trees fade. It doesnt need to be dramatic color shift. Id like to see game mechanics change with the seasons, like crop growth, livestock behaviors, passive mob spawn rates etc. Mobs that change with the seasons would be cool too, and a butterfly mob would be perfect for that.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: it's not seasons. 1. Neither autumn nor winter related symbols were included. 2. Spring related symbols were included twice. 3. It wouldn't work with unloaded chunks, so it would break constantly. 4. There are too many tryhards in this community for Mojang to add a system, that limits farms. The only way for Mojang to add seasons to the game, is for them to ignore their own teaser, ignore all the bugs that will happen and ignore every single update that made the game harder in any possible way.

aside from being very cool by itself, I think adding seasons would fix one of my all time most dislike aspect of minecraft overworld generation: inconsistent biome temperatures. While the big overworld generation overhaul in 1.18 did near impossible for hot biomes like deserts to generate next to cold biomes like tundra, at a zoomed out scale the patterning of where hot and cold biomes are relative to each other is still just too randomized imo. However, adding seasons that apply to allow biomes in the overworld would sort of fix this imo as the tundra wouldnt be snowly in the summer necessarily and the temperate biomes would actually have snow in the winter. Adding seasons would effectively even out the drastic biome temperature differences in the current world generation, which would be a huge win imo

In the deep snow, taiga, high up on snowy mountains i would like to see something like freezing and you need to stay warm with leather clothes and (maybe something like hot drinks, soup) Or in the desert it would be so hot you rather seek shelter and the shadows in the midle of the day, because you overheat and lose HP. You would need to drink a lot to stay hydrated. And so on. That would make minecraft a complete game. The game is still too easy even on hard. Im always a lover of survival difficulty in games and this just needs to be in minecraft.

I’d personally much, much prefer a maple forest biome over an actual season mechanic. If they make it a mechanic builders lose the ability to control how their leaves look, so you can’t make a build that’s locked in autumn or spring, you’re just stuck with what they currently look like. Even if they introduce a /DoSeasonCycle gamerule it means you can’t have an autumn build in one area and a summer one in another, everything wouod be the same one season. We already have cherry groves as a very spring-esque biome and several snowy biomes, so a maple forest and perhaps some other flowering trees in different colours would simpily give you far more options. Remember, most of us once thought that being forced to sleep would be a cool mechanic.

personally I'd much rather prefer a weather update/overhaul instead of completely changing the game by adding seasons, honestly the only unrepresented season is fall/autumn so it'd be better if they just added that as a biome with a bunch of leaf colors. Maybe the reason they never added fog to the pale garden is that they were working on a weather update and fog would be included as a part of that instead? just a thought just a query but it's interesting to think about

This is probably not happening, they are unable to add mere fog to it, seasons would take actual work, the current staff there is uninterested, underqualified and have a design philosophy thats utterly incompatible with the game (cant harm real animals when the og game was about taking meat from them, wont add anything to complex etc)

I think it would be cool if water levels rises and lowers with rain also if biomes that are close to each other, for example, desert and planes if there is a dust storm in the desert, there would be some sand overlapping into the planes a little bit.

@wattlesplays True, I mean seasons would be cool, but idk they don't feel fitting for Minecraft. Minecraft I'd a stationary game so you can build things and movement yourself. If seasons were added, builds would look different depending on certain times, and it'd upset players who want their builds to not have snow or autumn leaves. Plus we already have winter and spring themed biomes. But again, it would be cool in theory☀️🌸❄️🍁
