I am late! But I am here. Gamma contamination works MUCH more effectively with the wide lens in tier 1. It doesn’t roll for the DoT per ammo spent, but rather per bug hit. Through testing I’ve found it has more longevity than even the ammo mod through sheer effeciency.

I like using necrotic blisters on the wave cooker with volatile impact on the sludge pump. Basically some weapons like the sludge pump get to double hit instead of doing extra damage when hitting a blister. Causing this build to absolutely shred Everything from Pretoriand over oppressors to dreadnaughts extremely quickly and ammo efficiently

@@cosmicsquid1285 other explosive weapons do a flat 50 dmg or something when they break the blisters, sludge pump charged shot does the 120 dmg for every single blister it hits. It's very annyoing to do with teammates that shoot explosions at the dread like turret whip, autocannon or the rocket launcher.

9:45 According to the DRG wiki, Diffusion Ray actually slows a target by 0.2x so an 80% reduction. Slows enemies to 20%, rather than by 20%. So it's even better!

Thank you for the recommendations! I think this is the only weapon I avoid taking any upgrades on a tier for because taking either option on tier 4 disables the reload animation. I don't find either toggle to be really worthwhile and I'd rather hit reload to play a funny animation.

I may be a Gunner main but I can't get enough of the power of DOT that Driller packs and the CWC definitely brings out some awesome effects as far as build design goes. For temp shock builds, watching the freeze chain reaction can be fun but i think temp shock really shines with the sticky fuel OC that increases flame time on surfaces. Another build that does scary dps for driller is face melter crispR with the OC on the wave cooker that creates boils.

Ya know, Sticky Flames CRSPR is still the strongest set and forget DoT for most enemies, in terms of Time to Kill and Ammo Efficiency. t3a, Temp Shock, and either Blisters or Rad OC also wipes out most things, save BetC or Dreads I didn't know Jetty Boots could ignite like Hover Boots- thats awesome. My preffered driller build is cryo with ice spear 31132 and diffusion ray cooker 23223, 2123 satchels and 1111 drills, 2211 or 2213 armor, 13 pick, vampire, thorns and resupplier for active perks and iron will and dash or medic for passive perks. if you use it, be sure to use the wide lens in tier 1. the lens penalty is really bad with the overclock. having wide lenses allow for more bugs to get the 25% chance for rad activation per shot.

Nice video. I highly recommend trying out t5b boiler ray with cryo builds, the bugs will still explode despite being frozen! I find the T3 temperature spread upgrade is enough to spread cold, and the boiler ray will instantly delete clumps of bugs. I think it pairs extremely well with snowball, since you can freeze clumps from long range and then instantly pop them all. My main issue with temp shock cryo cooker is that its pretty bad against anything bigger than a guard. Temp shock is easy enough to trigger multiple times with fire, since you can lay down sticky. With cryo, refreezing and tempshocking bigger enemies is really inefficient. The cooker itself does triple damage to frozen enemies, and while its still not a ton of damage its decent. For example, if you freeze a cluster of grunts and a prae/stingtail or two, the boiler ray explosions from all the grunts combined with the direct cooker beam will kill the praes quickly, while still keeping them frozen. Boiler ray also lets you use the weapon against enemies that arent frozen and not feel completely useless. Also in regards to T4, you can equip neither option and then you get to see the cookers reload animation when you press r. I also really love blistering necrosis, since the cooker itself can multihit the creature and blister, or any of your primaries/impact axes.

the temp shock is not bad against bigger glyphids. 200 is only 40 dmg less than thin containment field for the epc. the problems with boiler ray is that there is only a 50% chance a nearby glyphid will pop, and only within 2.5 meters, and the fact that dmg only takes place after the bug's hp runs out, this is very ammo hungry.

@@commonsense-og1gz the damage is not the point of temp shock being bad on bigger bugs, it uses a ton of cryo ammo to repeat temp shock something and cryo is already by far drillers least ammo efficient primary. Boiler ray uses some more ammo to kill the bug, but it uses cooker ammo and not cryo ammo. I still think temp shock is good with fire, it just doesnt make much sense to me to remove all the amazing benefits of freezing a bug. When it comes down to it, imo cryo driller isnt lacking ways of killing frozen enemies. Drills have a lot of fuel and do a lot of damage, 4 c4 charges on frozen packs, axes and then you have your secondary. I always run out of cryo ammo before secondary ammo if I am using a temp shock epc or cwc. boiler ray is much better against jellies/swarmers/non frozen enemies, and I find that it accomplishes the same thing cryo temp shock does (kill bunches of grunts), just for a slightly (with temp shock being a 25% chance this isnt as big as it seems) higher ammo cost. Basically it comes down to me wanting to maximize my cryo ammo on bigger targets, and I think its worth sacrificing cwc ammo efficiency vs grunts since I already have drills and c4. Obviously this is all just my opinion and preference, play whatever you want.

you should also give 11111 Mega Power Supply a shot. its a fantastic all rounder secondary for a sludge build. the extra ammo lets you use it a lot more aggressively, and it more than makes up for the lack of extra DoT with the radioactive mod on any non-boss enemy. Additionally, the radioactive OC ruins some breakpoints on enemies, especially on haz5 with 3-4 dwarves. the big one that comes to mind is it takes three shots instead of two to kill swarmers, and it takes a lot longer to kill medium sized enemies, such as grunts and slashers

These are two of my favorite builds with driller, although there are some amendments to be made to suit my most powerful iterations of them. Firstly for the sludge pump, I take the shotgun overclock to apply several stacks of the corrosive effect on a single large enemie, and use the wave cooker as described. I call it my 'Omai wa mo shinderu' build' since I can apply enough dots in an instant to kill pretorians. For the cryo cannon build, equip both of the increased width improvements to make its area of effect more like the outer ring of the retinal. Using the width toggle without the additional width addon will be closer to the inner ring on the aiming retina. Doing so will cause entire swarms of glyphids to evaporate after freezing only a few of them. I call it my Flash Freeze build, since you only need to fire the cryo cannon briefly and freeze a handful of bugs, before watching the rest of the hoard follow suit.

Wave Cooker is basically my main Secondary for Driller, not a Driller main myself, I'm an Engineer main, but that goddamn microwave is super satisfying with the Temperature Shock on frozen enemies Freeze, switch, steam whistling and ice breaking is a very satisfying combo, not sure if running the Shatter mod on Cryo Cannon is a good idea for it but it only speeds up the cracking and therefore more satisfying

I love the DoT stacking of gamma contamination and contagion transmitter with the sludge pump, but I feel like both need higher proc rates. 10% chance on CT feels pretty bad when left to rng, and a 25% chance on GC is too low since that the overclock gives you three nerfs with a buff only (approximately)a quarter of the time.

I use the same build as the first, but I found that using Blistering Necrosis with Convex Lens (T1 mod), and I bring the impact axes. This is an all-around build that slows, applies a dot, and allows for burst damage against tanky targets.

Personally I like the temp shock build and when I use it, I generally go for the flamethrower because not only are the burning thresholds lower as you said, the flamethrower also benefits from sticky flames and with some heat modifications it's really easy to light fire-weak enemies like macteras and Spitballers up. (I am also too lazy to switch my loadout for every single mission and I can excuse going into the magma core with a flamethrower but not into the glacier with a fridge gun) For the switchable lenses I usually go for the focus lens because it increases fire rate and thus I get to proc my effects more often on single targets which are really hard to miss. Also the sludge pump DoT build is in my opinion the best driller loadout for dreadnoughts singe they are basically immune to your other primaries.

Driller is the debuff class, very powerful but comes to his limits when Dreadnoughts are fireproof. Nothing the goop can't fix though.

Personally, one of my favorite temp shock builds is as follows: CRSPR 2, 2, 3, 3, 1 Fuel Stream Diffuser WAVE 2, 1, 2, 2, 3 Diffusion Ray This build is insanely ammo efficient. I don't take T1 damage on WAVE since unless you're in a massive cave, the 20m reach of CRSPR can allow it to hit targets you think are out of range.

here are my thoughts on this: 1. the reason why the weapon seems confusing and week, is due to the wave cooker being an AOE based weapon. consider the subata, it has the ability to deal up to 18 dmg to a single bug, with the ability to stretch it to another with tier 5b. but since the wave cooker can cover anywhere up to as many as 3 or 4 bugs, before accounting for diffusion ray, the dmg must be lowered to account for this. otherwise, the wave cooker would be much stronger by default. 2. if one is going to use the gamma OC, then it would be best to pair it with something that can deal single target dmg. volatile impact mixture, combined with the tier 2c single dmg, makes the sludge pump reach 48 dmg per shot. this is great for covering praetoreans and oppressors so that the rad status effect can be used to deal with the smaller bugs. as for lens, i would always take the wide lens for this in tier 1. the lens size penalty for this overclock is way worse than the ammo penalty, and since the status effect is 25% per bug, it would be way better to fit the whole horde into the lens. 3. blistering necrosis synergizes with the temp shock extremely well for the beefy bugs, since the cryocannon or flame thrower will be used multiple times on praetoreans and oppressors. if the goal is to use this on hordes, then it combos extremely well with boiler ray, as long as wide lenses are used. blistering necrosis has a 10% chance of spawning blisters, however, this is per glyphid not per horde, so going with wide lenses mean that of 4 bugs, 1 or 2 may have boils on them within the first second. 4. one thing of note is that super focused lens, all dmg with the corrosive mod in tier 5, can actually push the wave cooker to gk2 levels of dmg. 5. on the subject of the wide lens from tier 4, experiment with it while having the 3x lens mod in tier1. that 1.25x may be multiplied on top of the 3x available.

@@humbleclay79 speaking of wide lens, i should add that the tier 4 wide lens option seems to work better with concave lens added. i think it maybe 25% more on top of the 3x. also, blistering necrosis gives you basically guarantied hits with wide lenses, and it is so nasty against tanky things.

Just gonna throw this one out there, and remember: Don't knock it until you try it. Hydrogen Ion Additive Sludge Pump: 22212 Super Focus Lens Wave Cooker: 12121 This is a general use build that focuses a bit more heavily on single target than most driller builds. Disperser compound is valid to give more wave clear, and some of the sludge pump mods can be changed too for personal preference even if you stick with HIA. However, this build excels at being a relatively ammo efficient way to run sludge pump in elimination missions, and VIR can be used on the sludge to help with this (but make sure you use T3A sludge if you're going with this). I had been looking for a viable build with SFL for a while and came up with this, and I think it works. There are a lot of better builds, but it's fun to change up your loadout and also to make use of what are generally considered bad overclocks.

I thought temp shock was better (in theory) on flamethrower since big enemies burn quickly... Had no idea that with cryo you could do a chain effect. That's awesome! I'll try it out

To think, I've spent roughly the past month experiment with Cryo/Cooker... 😹 I decided I'd take it for a spin with Flow Rate Expansion after I noticed the chain reaction effect on a Deep Dive, and I've been practicing with that rapid-response chilling + chain reaction Temp. Shock playstyle ever since... it struggles a bit with large, single-targets, like Oppressors and BDs, but it's top-tier swarm clearing otherwise... 😹
