Hape Sesotho se tumme koana Lesotho hobane ke habo sona. We are immigrants from Lesotho living in South Africa hence it is other tribes that dominate South Africa, although Sesotho is part of the official languages/tribes of South Africa. Wena ha o tseba o mosotho, khaba ka bosotho ba hao wherever you are, even if you go to UK...leave with your Sesotho music so that it forever reminds you of home and your identity. You won’t find a piece of your identity everywhere you go, and it’s only normal. You don’t have to fit in everywhere you go, you also won’t always be celebrated everywhere you go. Dula o tseba o tswa kae wherever you go.

@@nthabisenglekitlane2308 I hear you my sister, but I disagree with you, even in Lesotho Basotho don't support their artists, infact Bo Stunna ,Vector and others have more support and appreciation of their work, here in South Africa than in Lesotho. Let's leave Lesotho aside for now, look at free state where Basotho dominate, tell me of any artist like Makhadzi or a group of artists like nkabi Nation, which is famous all over South Africa .It has been like this for years!

@@hlalelemohale7296 The reason is because even Free State artists ba swabela their province. They would rather see themselves in “the city of gold” where dreams are sold, than to build platforms and industries in their own province. You can’t reign in a foreign land, and want to leave your land with no fans on this side because people in that land may not even celebrate you simply because you come from Free State and ea nyatswa. NkabiNation is nationally big but they began building their footprint in KZN and so did Makhazi. Once you start seeing foreign lands as your “golden ticket”, you’ll never receive respect in those land because they’ll think you’re desperate for their approval, so ba tla o nyatsa. And chances are, you’ll lose your sound and origin because you’ll do almost anything to make it...and making it there could require you to become a puppet that goes wherever the wind blows. This is why we see artists switching sounds and genres like underwear. For example Stino Le Thenny, a Bloemfontein hip hop duo, have an immense footprint here in Bloemfontein. They built a brand here before getting recognised by Khuli Chana and K.O. They received a lot of support from Bloemfontein. When they got to Gauteng, they took Bloemfontein with them. They didn’t get there only to conform to what goes on in Gauteng, ba tsamaye le moya wa Gauteng. They didn’t turn into puppets to be relevant, they remained loyal to their sound and their lingo. They introduced those Gauteng rappers to Bloemfontein rap/sound. There are also a couple of other Free State artists that made it national like Semito and Presss. The only issue with Free State artists is that they don’t know how to make a business in music. Talent alone is not enough for success in the music industry. A lot goes into aspect e.g star-quality, PR, finances, vision, relevance, innovation, education, team, composition-quality, sponsorships just to mention a few. Creating good music with immense talent alone is not enough for success in music. And releasing hit after hit with no strategic ethic doesn’t guarantee success in music because you are just wasting good music that doesn’t reach masses. O re ngoathela dijo tse ngata ka hara sejana, you’re not giving us time to digest dijo tsa hao. That’s why you come across soundtracks from 6 years ago that sound great and relevant in this day and time and wonder why the soundtrack was never big the time it was released. Then you find that the team failed to market the soundtrack hantle, poor PR. There are artists that have great teams behind them like this female DJ Uncle Waffles. A lot of people can debate on whether she has talent but she has great team behind her, hence she’s international now. She doesn’t have a “wow factor” to be honest but she created a vision, a signature and remained loyal to it with the good team she has. Then you find a unique and talented artist, with no team, or no education behind doing business in music...failing to make it in the industry. When we talk about supporting artists, let’s bear in mind hore support alone also doesn’t guarantee success because composing music is one thing but selling music is another thing. We can love artists, stream their music and attend their gigs but if the artist’s vision is to grow and blow up, our support alone is not enough of the labour that goes behind climbing up the ladder in the music industry. Free State is not dominated by Basotho, there’s just a larger population of Basotho in small towns with small populations like bo Winburg, Kroonstad, Welkom, Venter, Parys, Qwa-qwa etc. Then in the city of Free State(Bloemfontein), there are a lot of Batswana, Xhosas and some Zulus, obviously because Free State is near those tribes’ regions. If Basotho dominated Free State, our district wouldn’t be named a “Fezile Dabi” district. Let’s not forget hore there’s also too much tribalism in South Africa. Our tribes are not united. The Xhosa claim they are better than all tribes because of “Nelson Mandela”. Zulus claim that South Africa is theirs because of “Shaka Zulu”. When you travel abroad, you are either asked if you know Nelson Mandela or Shaka Zulu. They think South Africa is only Zulu and Xhosa. Whether we, Basotho, like it or not...we will never be respected by other tribes or even celebrated, more especially if we don’t build our own industries and footprints without seeking to “make it” in other tribes’ regions. Lesotho ke tseba ho mamellwa Sesotho most of the times. From my time residing there, ho ne ho duma Koriana, Famo, Pitiki nearly everywhere. But because the artists in Lesotho kill each other over music, you can’t play Koriana or Famo in any neighbourhood. They are gang rivals and you might get shot at if you pass by a certain neighbourhood, playing their rival’s songs. They are all fighting for fame and power there. I think the issue kabo Vector le Stunna ke hobane Lesotho’s population mostly consists of elderly citizens more than the youth. And some young people, especially young men, are into Koriana and Famo. Even bo Komanda le Maths, they had to come to South Africa at some point because the “tshepe” genre wasn’t getting so much recognition back then in Lesotho. It wasn’t even where it is today. Tshepe back then was just seen as an underground genre. South Africa happens to consist more of the youth, that’s why they receive more support here. And you know rap is among the genres that South African youth like. Bo HHP, Tuks Senganga, Kuli Chana paved a way in Maf-town for Motswako before making it elsewhere. HHP built a whole Motswako industry there instead of rushing to be recruited by the hip hop industries in Gauteng. Free State artists need to adopt that mentality. Free State needs studios, because the talent here is everywhere. Free State artists need music schooling. It should all start here, not Gauteng ena eo ba e ratang. As for “tshepe” when it blows up, I hope South Africa will respect the fact that it belongs to Lesotho where it originated. I hope it won’t be treated like a trend jwalo ka “amapiano”. Right now even Nigerians have adopted “amapiano”. Ha e sana beng’ba yona jwale. I hope that won’t be the case ka tsepe. Otherwise Vector le Stunna ba etsa mosebetsi o motle haholo in South Africa. Ba beile Sesotho on the map👏🏾 Le bo Komanda le Maths ha reya ba lebala hohang👏🏾 I’m so sorry for writing a whole essay🙏🏾😭🙈
