In 2014, Miku was just holding a black Rickenbacker Model 620 in her arms. In 2021, she plays high speed riffs, timely leads, and solid chord work to give BM songs profound feelings. She is also an outstanding backing vocalist giving complex harmonies, rather than just tracing upper third notes. Thank you for your reaction to BAND-MAID. From Japan.

One thing that never gets mentioned is Miku's posture while singing. She's 5' or 5'1" at most and that Zemaitis isn't the lightest guitar around, yet her back is as straight as a board. I admire that.
@harleyrichards1403 жыл бұрын
There's been at least one interview where she mentions that her back and shoulders really suffer from the weight of the guitar and, on tour, she carries a golf ball in her luggage to rub over her muscles after a show to relax them. It may have been for the camera but she added that she'd let MISA loose with the golf ball once and that hurt! Never again!

We all know the story... Miku did not think her voice was strong enough and they got Saiki. Then she decided she needed to play guitar. "Time" passes (pun intended)... And now you would never know that she wasn't always playing guitar to a high level and also doing formidable (and necessary) backing vocals. What a driven pidgeon she is.

It kind of begs the question. Can anyone who puts in the time and effort learn to play the guitar at a high level. Or, did Miku have a "untapped" talent she didn't know she had, but just needed to train it. All I truly know is I haven't enjoyed a band so much in years.
@GaryMenzel3 жыл бұрын
@@waynetubr My take on it is that there has to be a "spark" of creativity and then just a lot of determination. Clearly, Miku has a background of being creative and who can deny her determination? As for the other members, their background is in music and performance of various kinds and from a young age - even Saiki plays (just not in the band). Multi-instrumentalists just understand each other better.

Great and thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。I am a big BABYMETAL fan and a newbie fan of Band-Maid. Maybe a Madiac had already mentioned before, but I found a good article about Kanami and Miku in a Japanese magazine "Headbang" vol. 28 issued in January this year. Kanami answered in an interview and spoke highly of Miku's current skill as (1) faster palm mute than Kanami's (2) powerful strumming (3) ability to play with complicated chords with tension notes. Miku has been an excellent singer and now she is also a skilled instrumentalist. I admire her talent, efforts and cutesy. (I love Su & Moa most though 😄 )

Love this double 2-fer, great analysis as always. One thing surprised me, that you sort of picked up on MISA late in "Manners". She totally dominates that song, if anything, it's the best example I have seen of Bass being a lead instrument. That tone and weight, and the sheer funkiness of her line, I've never really heard anything like that since, maybe, Stanley Clarke (look him up if you don't know who he is).

I agree. I blame it partly on the whiskey, while evaluating Band-Maid who have so many things going on. Whiskey factor IMHO: Reduction of inhibition 7, Reduction of broader recognition android verbalization of goddess level bass, also 7. On the other hand, I think practically all reactors short the recognition of great bass work. Just my opinion.
