You know what? I am an autodidact and I am trying to know the "art of first principle", I don't just wanna cram or memorize things, I want to intuitively understand what science truly is and all the tools therein.. I have been really struggling with the intuitive idea of phenomenon like " frequency" and how they say " the speed is the same, even if the frequency is different, I couldnt wrap my head around it.. but for the first time, this video of your is the ice-breaker... This is very well done video. Very nice graphics and useful information. There is a small idea that it looks to me is inaccurate which is that the wave speed does not change with frequency. In fact it does (f=v/lambda) as they are proportional one to each other. The confusion lies that the cases that are being presented are for variation of frequency and lambda, while keeping velocity constant. For example we can have velocity v as a constant by the multiplication of two different values let's say f1*lambda1 and f2*lambda2. On the example: f1 = 3Hz and F2 = 1Hz. Therefore to keep the velocity constant then the wavelengths should be lambda1 = lambda2/3. Thus, f1*lambda1 = f2*lambda2. 3*lambda1 = 1*lambda2 = 3*lambda2/3.

You are correct Alberto, this is a good video but the speed does in fact vary with change in frequency. As seen in the equation presented in his own video. If you keep the speed constant then the other components must change to accommodate.

Thanks for watching! Actually, wave speed is determined only by the properties of the medium that the wave propagates through. Yes, mathematically you can change wavelength or frequency and see a change in velocity by keeping the other variable constant. In reality, however, the only change that can be made to change wave speed is by changing the medium. Changing frequency by somehow modifying the wave source only results in a change in wavelength to reconcile the proportion. Unless the medium changes, you wont see a change in wave speed. If you change the medium that a wave propagates through, assuming a constant frequency, then you'll see wavelength change as a result, with frequency remaining unchanged.

Yes, because for frequency to change, the source would have to oscillate faster or slower to change how many waves occur each second. If a wave can travel faster through a medium, its wavelength becomes longer. Imagine drawing a wave on a sheet of paper that is being pulled away from you. You move your pen back and forth perpendicular to the motion of the paper as it moves away from you, which draws a waveform. Now imagine the paper gets pulled away from you even faster. As you draw, the ink is moving away from you faster, but your arm did not change its up and down speed. The result is a longer waveform, but if you count how many total waveforms you draw each second, it remains the same.

Thanks for the video. At the end of the video I might be thinking that if I have the same wave source for two different waves and the waves are travelling through the same medium, then they should have the same wavelength. I don't say the following for the reason of trying to contradict you but only to ask for the explanation/information needed to understand: why then do we have a large spectrum of wavelengths from the sun? To further narrow this down, let's just take visible light spectrum: the source is the sun, it travels through the same space and atmosphere but we have different wavelengths of light that our eyes can respond to as sensations of different colors. What is going on with these waves to make them systematically have different wavelengths being from the same source and travelling through the same mediums?

Does wave Amplitude represent Power? I am trying to understand if my microwave opperates at the same frequency as my router why can't I cook food with my router. What property is Power that that a wave with the same frequency, wavelength and speed... can do more damage? I thought Power was about energy per second... but frequency is already determined? Can someone please tell me why is the frequency of oscillation of the electromagnetic fields responsible for the energy of a wave and not it's amplitude. Amplitude is determined by the amount of disturbance in the electric field and the frequency is determined by the rate at which these one complete cycle of this disturbance takes place in the electromagnetic field.

Both of them are part of a greater thing called electromagnetic radiation (you need to say). Don't mislead the people! If you do not know something, it is better not to talk than to mislead the people just for the sake of money! 2 - Most of the youtubers forget that the waves have another property of the same importance as the frequency, the wavelength and the speed. And that property is called amplitude. Most youtubers, when "teaching" about electromagnetic radiation, say "longer wavelength EM waves have lower energy and shorter wavelength EM waves have higher energy", and they draw, in both cases, the amplitude of the EM waves equal to the wavelength of the respective waves, misleading the people. In the case of shorter wavelength EM waves they forget to draw the amplitude greater than the wavelength of the wave. And the people start scratching their heads asking themselves : "where the extra energy comes from? It seems the shorter wavelength EM waves have lower energy".

Before watching this video lemme write what i know .. Velocity of a wave depends on both wavelength and freqiency ... So higher velocity may mean higher wavelength ... Or higher frequency ... Or both ... And frequency ofcourse depemds on source ... And velocity on a particular string is actually cpnstang .... So i guess if he is going to talk about same string then increasing frequency would reduce wavelength and so velocity should be constabt ... Lets see

Velocity of the wave only depends on the medium its moving through. The wavelength will depend on the frequency of the wave and the velocity of the wave. A higher velocity wave will result in a longer wavelength if frequency is unchanged. Frequency is determined only by the wave source.

Because you say that and sows that the peaks of the two wave forms troubles at the same speed but to a cycle to be recognized on its form have to be read entirely. Buy the time the long waveform reach the end of the cycle the faster one was recognized 2 times... that is faster. You have to pass your entire body to be granted
