One of the crew was "Sparks", the radio operator. Sparks could fish if he wanted to, to supplement his pay, but keeping the batteries from over-discharging (which would make recharge impossible) was a full time job. The 1937 log was online in its entirety at one time, and makes a good read!

i was pretty upset when northwest seaport decided to scrap the wawona, although i wasn't really surprised. over the years they never did any hull maintenance, never put her into drydock until the day they chopped her up. but they did make a ton of money off her by donations and selling merch saying the proceeds would go to restoration but instead it went into the paychecks of northwest seaport corporate staff, who were very well paid even though everyone else in the organization was an unpaid volunteer. i suspect northwest seaport still operates this way, arthur foss is looking severely rotten these days...

On the bright side, her sister ship in CA received parts from her so not everything got scrapped.
