D. Shapovalov turned 25 yesterday. He hasn't won the least title since the ATP 250 Stockholm tournament in 2019, that exactly coincides with his encounter of M. Bjorklund, his current GF, a 2nd class WTA player who always travels with him on the tour (both are now ranked beyond the top 100...). Such a waste of talent out of lack of dedication and hard work...

Fonseca looked really good today. Strong off both wings, good net game, drop shots, consistency. He could be Top 50 by the end of the year. Sonego very gracious in defeat, signed dozens of tennis balls after losing to a 17 year old. Classy move.

Shapovalov mind set is a mistery, he plays super high level tennis for a few games or maybe for a set. During that period he is almost unbeatable. Then suddenly for no apparent reason he starts piling up unforced errors upon unforced errors, it is almost like he is scared of winning a match...

Some people play so much worse when they're up. I also think this happens to people who are slow to adjust to the small changes in strategy that happen in a match.
@LordAbhor
@LordAbhor 15 күн бұрын
One reason: his game is SUPER damn risky. When it's working he's too 10, when it's not he doesn't have the right adjustment and you just have to make him play. Obviously you can't expect to play that risky the whole match and stay consistent.

His Ex coach Youzhny said he is not putting in enough effort. He also wasnt that bad as he now is when he was with Youzhny. At the moment he is not even playing top 100 level. If you are losing to Moutet so clearly you are a challenger player. Shapovalov just seems to have absolutely no idea what a game plan even is. Its sad as he has great technique. He can basically put anyone into defensive mode. But he cannot outplay them.

@J.-M.
@J.-M. 16 күн бұрын
People always say his problem is his shot selection, poor tactics, completely ignoring his obvious technical deficiencies. He doesn't miss so many inside out forehands (as you can see in this video, too) because it's always a bad shot selection, but because the shot is technically flawed. His forehand has been a huge problem for years, he really has a very problematic forehand technique, and many of his errors are directly caused by it.

That's nothing extraordinary. Musetti had 6 losses in a row at the end of last year, followed by 4 losses in a row this year. And whenever he loses, he improves his ranking, he's still in the top 30. So you really don't have to win much. A couple of strategic wins per season is enough for anyone to live a comfortable tennis life with decent ranking.
