I’ll tell you this Val, nothing defeats you. It’s a very admirable quality and speaks to your fine character. Even in some of the darkest times with Jess, you would not be defeated. This table has met it’s match! My money’s on you!

Go with the grain, Val. Wrap you paper bag paper around a wood block to give you better control on the table and paper.

I think it made it look great. You can see more of the grains of the wood. Wow sorry it ended that way. I am sure no matter what you will get it better.

Val, You are an inspiration. You try new things, you work so hard to improve various projects, and even though possibly tired, you never give up. Your final project is beautiful. Great job. I also like your table runner.

I always used tack cloth on all of my projects to get any tiny pieces of grit or anything left on my surfaces. I also use it in between sanding etc… that step will help not have those “nubs” as you called it. Light sanding in between coats of poly and using tack cloth I think will give u the finish u desire. In my experience using wax on any heavily used surface always leaves that sticky residue. I made this same mistake once before and I never used wax again on surfaces i planned to use a lot. Wax on certain pieces works great but in my experience not on surfaces used every day. It looks beautiful Val… you do amazing work!!

I think you did a great job. Decades ago before it seems like they are using paste wax, there was a show with Martha Stewart that I watched where she was using butcher wax and cheesecloth and as with most wax, she said a little goes a long way and she preferred using the cheese cloth to wipe in smaller amounts of wax and go that direction. So you would use a smaller amount of wax which might take longer but you rub it in with the cheesecloth and try to get it to go as far as you can with the amount of wax that she applied before reaching in the jar to take out anymore wax. I found articles on Google that you can look at that go through the differences between butcher wax and paste wax and give you information and I found that they said for butcher block the best thing to use is butcher wax. But since your top is faux butcher block, what you have done is fine because as you were instructed by the viewer, what you used is exactly what it is used for and what it does. So don't fret. It looks great. And there's no reason to think that it's not good enough

I would sand it down, use a tack cloth, then use a finish called Helmsman. This is the finish that is used. on bartops. It is made to be wiped with water. I used it on my dining room table and on my dining room floor.

You needed a small electric/battery powered buffer. That would have worked so much better. Amazon, Lowes. Great for small projects and waxing.

I think it looks great. It was a trial and error experience with the wax, glad your were able to remedy the tackiness. Lastly, (though not the topic) I think the table looks better closer to the window, too! Settling into a new home is a constantly evolving project, thank you for taking us along as you work it all out 🧡

When you're using wax on wood, wax needs to get hot. High-speed buffer electric is the way to go. But it's not a one done thing. It's like your floor you gotta continue sleep wax a couple times a year
