hello doc what does shank plates do and are they bad for flat footed? and what do you think the safest basketball shoes thanks

shanks have two purposes - one is to stabilise the footbed and give arch support, so that you don't get midfoot pain. The other thing can be a "snapback" effect, where if the shank is long enough, especially a carbon fiber one, it will store elastic potential energy as your foot bends, then release it as kinetic energy, or, in practice, movement - so a higher jump or faster step. As far as the flatfooted thing, I have no idea but I hope I could help with the other things.

They can be beneficial for flat-footed people since shanks can give support and stoutness under the arch, which will prevent the foot from bottoming out the foam and overpronating. I hope that helps. I do not think it is bad for flat feet unless the shank causes irritation underfoot or something.
