Hi Tomley, I know this is an old video, but I have just bought this same ESC, and I am having some problems with it. It seems like a defective unit, initially it appeared to only get to about 30% throttle, when full throttle is applied. Changing the PWM from 8k to 16k seemed to get it to 50% throttle, and 4k seems like it is about right, but then it cuts out when throttled up under load. At 8k pwm, my amp meter showed about 60a draw, 16k pwm pulled 80a and 4k pulled 120a before cutting power to about 10%, until release and rethrottle, where it would do the same thing. All other parts in the system are not new, and I expect about 130-140 max amp draw. 1460kv motor on 6S. I can't really find any info on this unit, and if you or anybody can remember anything, even if it was totally fine out the box, I'd appreciate the it. Would make it easier to troubleshoot or attempt a replacement.

I smoked mine 10mins into running it in. Ran a 3s with a 2200kv 4274 and it went up in flames while i tried to see why the motor was cogging after i switched it off.

@@thepixelninja241 Thanks. An update on mine... never got it working, replaced with a Max6. I would advise anyone to avoid this esc. Lesson learned.

Glad I watched to the end, Phil. I learned something about batteries I hadn't known about. I often wondered about using a 'too small' battery for a rig but never knew exactly why not. I have a few leftovers that are puffy and having used them in larger rigs could very well be the reason, considering I was still green in RCing. In any event, my lipos stay much healthier now and I'm guessing (after having seen your result) it's because I make battery/rig choices more carefully than I used to, and I'm also more patient & choose to wait, then charge them with a lower-than-max charge amperage. Considering what it costs for us NON-SPONSORED producers to buy batteries (sorry, little pent-up anger, there) you tend to take good care of them. Thanks, Phil. You a schmart guy!
@TomleyRC5 жыл бұрын
No problem Al, yes...Lipo choice is important. These are my biggest 3s pair I own, and seem to be on the very limit with this ESC/Motor set up. And I completely understand your slight anger at the cost vs treatment etc. It's much easier to push stuff to the limit if the upfront costs are Zero. Cheers for watching.

Hello, I saw that this operates with 3s-6s. Curious if it will run on 2s. I’ve heard similar 3s-6s systems can run on 2s. Do you know or could you see if it would run with a 2s? Thank you!!! Great vid 👍👍👍
@TomleyRC4 жыл бұрын
hmmm.... might do, it certainly won't do any damage.

Tomley RC This esc looks like a good candidate for rc drag with its high amp rating, stacked capacitors, and great price. My class is limited to 2s and that’s where my original question spurred.
@jamietsang36215 жыл бұрын
Hey Tomley, do you reckon why the zd racing line is slow at stock because they are all geared too low? Maybe a bigger pinion would make it faster and wouldn't put that much more strain on the motor.

Well, the Pirates 2 and the Beast Pro are both seriously robust pieces of kit - the ZD Racing drivetrain appears to be made of weapons-grade unobtanium! One question about the blown LiPo - does that mean you´ll discard it? I´ve been charging all my LiPos in hopes of going out to record a video tomorrow and I´ve found to my horror that at least half are slightly puffed up and two are as bad as the one you showed us in this video. Are they likely to go bang? If so I´ll delete a car or two from tomorrow´s "playlist".
@TomleyRC5 жыл бұрын
These Lipo's settled down once they had cooled a bit. But it's not always a good idea to use slightly puffed ones, especially if you are using something quite powerful. It's the over discharging that can cause them to go. So max motor Amps are important to know, as well as what your Lipo's can safely take. mah/c rating (capacity divided by the C rating)
@Del350K45 жыл бұрын
@@TomleyRC When you say "over discharging", I take it you mean discharging at a rate in excess of the pack´s "C" rating rather than discharging to too low a voltage through driving for too long? I think I´m likely to be more guilty of the latter, but however I did it, they´re perfect for making 1:12 scale soft furnishings - perhaps I´ll take up doll´s house modelling...

Mine fell apart at 25% throttle. Super cheap plastic on the steering knuckle. They have a metal steering knuckle with a super cheap plastic piece being the stress point. About 1/16 inch plastic with next to nothing around the screw pivot point that snapped and the front wheel fell off so decent fast car keeps the wheels on the ground pretty well but it’s very cheaply made
