As a Gujarati posted in Kerala, I have to say Mallus are surprisingly chill when it comes to language. Unlike many other parts of the country, they're cool with sticking to English names for their cities, probably because they know how tricky the original ones can be for us Northies to pronounce. For instance, they still use names like Calicut for Kozhikode, Cochin for Ernakulam, or Alleppey for Alappuzha. So, why insist on butchering them without taking any efforts to try pronouncing it right "Kozhikode (Ko-yee-koh-dey) This also highlights why South Indians often resist the imposition of Hindi. Just like we struggle with sounds like 'Zha' in their languages, there are sounds in Hindi that South Indians find tough to pronounce. Yet we keep pushing changes like 'Bharatiya Nyaya Sanghita' or 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' without considering how challenging certain Hindi sounds in these words are for them. It’s a two-way street, we need to be more considerate on both sides.
