I love how the directors used characterization to build a bond between the viewers and Wayne. The only time he looks remotely happy is when he's with his mom. Any other time he has a dead look in his eyes and will do all sorts of crazy stunts that risk his life, even stab his own hand without thinking twice, because he could care less if he lives or dies. We see a new side of Wayne when he reunites with his mother.
