Wayne Gretzky's 3D Hockey for N64 Still Holds up Today | REVIEW

Gretzky 64 is a really great multiplayer game, even if you don't like hockey. First game to incorporate 4 controllers on a console, which is a big deal. This arcade style of hockey is fast paced, and there are tons of goals!

My friend and I played this game A LOT. His mom didn’t like violence or fighting (despite him and I fighting constantly with fists in the front yard), so she made him turn fighting off in the game. When she wasn’t around we left it on..

I loved how with a code you can unlock a hidden division with the Quebec Nordiques, the winnipeg jets, the hartford whalers and the minnesota north stars. A little retro touch.

I played this with friends a lot in college until I got Mario Kart 64... It is a fun game you can still play after 10-15 beers.

The game was at it's best played in arcade mode, 3v3, PvP, on a regulation size rink, with auto switching off. last two settings are really important. extra rink size provides a bit more time to position and defend and auto switching off allows you to pass and then check a defender so you can turn a two on two into a two on one. still not one for the hockey purists but as an aussie it actually has a strong Aussie rules flavour to the pacing and chaos

You’re also playing on the arcade mode. Play the normal mode, normal ice, offsides on. You will have low scoring games

My man defense is key in this game! You forgot about the defensive controls that let you fall in front of the puck or block the goal. Great game!

Some of the shots in this game are more realistic than Nhl 23 but I would like to see this game with all 32 current Nhl teams

They definitely cut down on the scoring in the following '98 edition. The goalies are alot more capable. They allowed the goalies to move out more to cut down on shooting angles. Also, I think they eliminated one save animation which was useless in the original. The goalie would drop to his knees and square up, as if he's bracing for a power shot. For me it was a bit of a culture shock, watching the scoring drop from the original to the '98 sequel.

You didn’t showcase any of the good stuff. Like when you would super check the living fuck out of somebody against the boards. Or how you could shoot a power slapshot that would blow the goalie and the goal against the boards. There was also another shot that you could use with the superpower. I forgot what it was though. There was a lot of other cool stuff. The power One timers too
