I'm a YUGE Wayne Krantz fan, and have been since the first time I heard him play those many years ago. The reason I LOVE his work so much is because he is a totally unique voice, and that voice speaks to me. I can listen to any of his many recordings, and I'm surprised every time I do. I don't know of too many other guys who can do that, especially in the derivative world we live in. The musicians that I really enjoy are those who've been able to learn and speak their own language. It's something that I wish more musicians would aspire to... anyway, just wanted to let you know that I thoroughly enjoyed this interview... thanks a million...

For the record, I've tried to get Krantz's music on NPR. The response that I usually get is " he's too rock for jazz " or ( my favorite ) " he's too jazz for rock. " Wayne's music is simply indescribable but magical. I wish more people could REALLY listen to what Wayne is doing. It's wonderful music that deserves to be more widely recognized by the musical community at large.

I've always wondered if Wayne reads anthropology or sociology, because his thinking about music, and society often seems to place making music within the mass of society. Great interview from a great guitar player.

Th artist is NOT obligated to do anything creatively other than what is sincere to them, and in following that sincerity of creative muse and vision, the artist offers the most personal art that he or she can put forth. THIS IS the highest form of gratitude and respect possible to an audience Wayne Krantz, a deeply personal offering not altered by any lesser motivation other than the pure muse and vision itself, whether it appeals to millions or tens. The assumption that high artistry inevitably doesn't connect with the non-musician is a fallacy. In every thousand there will be one that is moved, this is inspiration, and at that point the artist has done his or her "job." A sincere musical offering of high skill and sophistication still has the potential to be quite visceral with much emotional content. This is what I regard as truly great; sophistication AND emotional/visceral aspects in equal measure. Th artist need not be concerned with "including them" (the audience or listener", the artist need be chiefly concerned with what they are sincerely moved creatively to realize, and in turn will ALWAYS find SOME that are moved, if it's MUSICAL.
