I don't think anyone has any doubts about Rooney's quality as a player. I think the main complaint people have is that he underachieved in major competitions as an England international. Yes he's England's top goal scorer but a lot of his goals are in friendlies or against significantly weaker teams. Players like Shearer and Lineker may have fewer goals but were more successful in major competitions and scored when it mattered.

Abhilash H M the deflection looks like it has minimal effect on where the ball actuslly ends up. it just changes the trajectory a bit. you can see it’s still curling into the corner
