Joe was the kindest man. He gave everyone their 15 minutes of fame. I published the Joe Franklin Memory Lane News and was on his show several times. The only person he could never get to appear was Frank Sinatra.

RIP Joe Franklin. Joe brought honesty and a down to earth attitude to the talk show genre. Over 30 years ago, my coworkers and I "crashed" his office to see the taping of his show. He would not let us in, saying "I can't let you in, fire laws, boys, fire laws". We did not mind - we were thrilled to meet him. There will not be another like Joe. RIP beloved Joe.

Also, as you see from this video, he was able to reach out to different generations - from Bing Crosby to the Ramones. Truly a treasure.

If you read Johnny's book Commando, he says that he softened up to Joey towards the end. He figured Joey wouldn't want to see him, since there were years where they didn't talk. You are pretty far off man... Especially using hate to describe any feelings. Really we don't know, only they know. But I believe they had love for one another. Johnny even stated he stood up for Joey a few times and always would.... The Ramones did NOT hate each other...

"You're loquacious(Talkative), are'nt you ?!" 2:52 Marky was falling into that role , of being a spokesman for the band. Tommy was often put in charge of interviews , before Marky joined. I did notice , later , Marky seemed more comfortable than the others , talking at length , like , yes , he does do , here.

Speaking of the Smiths, I just listened to a podcast the other day (I can't remember what show) where they talked about how Morrissey is in the process of buying a cemetery plot at the Hollywood Forever cemetery in LA and is trying to buy the lot next to either Johnny or Dee Dee. I can't remember which guy, but he apparently has a fixation about being buried next to one of the Ramones. I think that it is funny since Joey just said that he personally didn't dig the Smiths. hehhe. I know that there is a photo floating around out there that shows Morrissey leaning, in a pose of admiration, against Johnny's statue. Maybe they were friends, I'm not sure. It seems like all of the well-known musicians wanted to be friends with Johnny. I totally understand it, as he was a really fascinating dude. Frig, Rob Zombie and Eddie Vedder were with him when he died.

Both Led Zeppelin and Ramones were influenced by many of the same great Fifties artists obviously. Listen to LZ jamming live medleys of great old pop and blues and boogie tunes, that's where you can detect some overlap with Ramones although the resulting bands are very different. Zeppelin was also far more folksy and weird which set them apart.
