Just out of curiosity ... couldn't you use water when your eyeshadow is being difficult? I do it & it seems to work ok. Of course, I wouldn't spritz my face with water but I use it for eyeshadow in a pinch.
@sastevens1210

@@jenniferi.4385 You can use water, yes. I just think the setting sprays work better for that plus it's right there in front of me so, I just use that. Plus, I dip the brush into the shadow and then give it a spritz rather than wetting the brush first then dipping into the pan. This method gives you more control over the moisture level because too wet = a mess!

It’s funny that you mention MAC fix+... when I worked there, it was drilled into our brains that we should never call it a setting spray, that it was a finishing spray and it didn’t have any claims of prolonging the makeup. Now, no ingredients have changed and all of the sudden it’s a setting spray. I even contacted MAC about it. Let’s just say, they beat around the bush and couldn’t give me an honest answer about it.

I recently learned from another KZbin makeup video, one hack with setting spray that has worked pretty well for me. After applying concealer to under eye, spay a tiny amount of setting spray on your hand. Take a finger, dip in spray and pat the under eye area until dry. They recommend a tiny amount of powder over the top to finish, but if I powder before putting on my base layer, I’ve found the extra powder is too much. Doing this hack has significantly decreased the amount of creasing I get in my laugh lines or under eye. It’s the only thing I use the setting spray for.... I LOVE Wayne’s recommendation for powdering after moisturizer. It’s a TOTAL GAME CHANGER!

I’m in my 60s with somewhat dry skin, and before I knew setting sprays even existed I used to finish my makeup with a spritz of rose water to take away the dry powdery look (I like powder as foundation. It’s just easier). But now, I use NYX Dewy Finish setting spray (drug store, under $10) and it works great for me. I actually receive the occasional compliment on my complexion even though I’m old. I think it’s that dewy finish setting spray, lol! It isn’t shiny on me either, just a little more dewy. I can see your point about setting sprays not working as well for oily skin, however. But as you age you might be glad to have oily skin. Mine used to be “normal” but it dries out as you age. Off topic but yesterday, I tried one of Wayne’s tips from years ago: I used powder on moisturized skin first, and then a few drops of liquid foundation over it. Like, hardly any liquid foundation at all. You don’t need as much if you apply powder first. What a revelation! It blended so well and seamlessly. I can see that skin needs to be exfoliated beforehand. I will definitely use that tip for times I want to wear liquid foundation. I wear relatively very little makeup. I don’t have a clue about contouring and highlighting and eye makeup and false lashes (mine would end up on my eyebrows probably, lord help us). But a nice even complexion with a slightly dewy finish works well for me every day. And that tip is AMAZING.

For those of you with oily skin... i have had oily skin for years and makeup never lasted beyond 3 hours.. so what i do now when there is a big event coming up is 7 days before the event i start using clay based face washes every other morning and a clay mask at least twice during those 7 days (at night) then the night before the big event i use a moisturising sheet mask (my favohrite is the garnier moisture bomb) this ensures that my skin doesnt get too dry from the clay masks and wash to over produce oils and that my skin has a balanced level of moisture. I even tried this on my wedding day in Morocco during the summer along with urban decay all nighter and my makeup lasted throughout the wedding and all the way until i woke up on the afternoon of next day (i dont normally sleep in my makeup but moroccan weddings are literally 8 to 9 hours long and last until the dawn of the next day along with having to change into several outfits, which my makeup also survived, so i was dead tired at the end and just plopped my head into the pillow and slept) 🤣

I have very oily skin and also very active so I sweat a lot. On the days I apply my skincare, prime and set with the tiniest dusting of powder, and a few spritzes of Urban Decay All Nighter before foundation, my makeup has never felt so good nor lasted as long. It has been my favorite trick to prevent the break down. Normal people probably don't need so many steps, but I'm in theater. Thank you for sharing Wayne, I love learning from your videos.

@Dissident Daisy Face Cancers! Uhm 🤔 You mean things like basal carcinoma, yeah back then skin cancer wasn’t as widely known. Most skin cancers especially on the face are from sun exposure, never heard of hair spray causing it 🤷🏻‍♀️Back then we didn’t use sun screens either, many people baked in the sun with baby oil or went to tanning beds. Glad we all know better now! I’m sure there are things you do now that later will be considered dangerous.

I do find the statement is true and I think this myself quite a while too. For Combination-Oily Skin people, I found that the setting spray do help reduce the powderness look become more melt and skin-like. But for my case, it is only works when I use the powder foundation. For Liquid foundation, it make my make up break-down faster, settle into pore and clump up around the Conner, when I'am not apply I still get beautiful look at the end of the day. It helps when you need picture for photos and glam because it's quicken the natural process of oil but it cost the faster makeup breakdown as return. Great content as always.

I'm so glad he has a channel. I've noticed that so many popular KZbin "gurus" use the method of applying WAY too much of a product, then removing the excess. Can't believe any have actually worked as "makeup artists". This technique is ridiculous & Def not artistry. Most can't even do makeup that actually looks good in real life & their skills are limited to pretty much just camera makeup. They don't actually have more than one method & they can only create ONE look: photo glam. Come on! They make out their job but never expand? It reminds me of a fellow classmate of mine who refused to do the assignment properly, always claiming that she was "beyond" study work bc she had a developed personal style. But no one had EVER seen any work that didn't look like it was her development of this style. It seemed more like she had never actually developed any Real art skills & was getting by just acting like she had progressed to the point of only creating originals years prior. She wanted to go to art school but was refusing to do assignments for study for the sole reason she was "beyond" it? When she could have just aced the assignment & used the work for her portfolio? Never added up. She now has a job at cordcodia, but no links to any artwork related anything on her social media.... I'm guessing she isn't a working artist at all. But I bet she would have created a line of paint if she could have.

This makes so much sense! Also, it's interesting that you say a matte face tends to photograph so beautifully compared to an overly shiny one like we are so used to seeing with "dewy" skin everywhere now. I find so many people now making KZbin videos that prefer to have "dewy" skin look like they have a very greasy shiny face on camera. It's not a good look. I don't understand why they think that's a good look for them?? Of course, I don't ask them or say anything to them about it because that would be rude and I believe everyone should do what makes themselves feel their best, but from where I'm sitting, the shiny dewy skin everywhere often does not look better on them.
