LoL yeah, I tend to learn the hard way. The most memorable was when I'd wiped down my welding table and project with acetone to clean it. Normally it would have been ok, I'd put the container away, but didn't think about my shop's temperature. Long story short, my entire table caught fire. It didn't last long, but it was alarming LoL Safety... Third? 😁

Lol...nice! I usually give the area a blast of compressed air to help dry up the chemicals before I weld. Pretty hard to tell your on fire once the helmet goes down. Reminds me of a time when my coveralls smoldered up my legs....cheers!

Hi there! I just found your videos this morning (welding the fox!) and have enjoyed a few of them so far. I was also an educator that taught Apprentices for 25 years (in Ontario) before I retired just before you made this video. I taught torch Brazing, Welding, and Cutting primarily (I was very passionate about that particular topic), but also the HVAC/R trade (my main trade for over 40 years). I admire your ability to produce these excellent videos and only wish I had the skills to edit. I don't want this to come off wrong or sounding like I came on here to cut you down, but there are a few points that you made that I would disagree with. I do agree with about 95% of everything you said and am also amazed that you covered all of that in 26 minutes! I chuckled when I saw the soot marks on the wall and door! Even though my students were "adults", we got a bit of that as well. Thanks for sharing your skills and most of all, for fostering an interest in the trades! We certainly need people like you!

When in senior high school I had a teacher that stressed that when moving an O2 tank make sure that the safety cap is on. He said there was a time when a tank was moved without the cap and it fell over it took off and went thru 5 concrete walls before stopping.

One thing I think is important to mention about the oxygen tank is that is the valve isn’t open all the way the safety disc in the valve won’t operate
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench 2 жыл бұрын
The main cylinder valve has to be opened all of the way as it has a back sealing valve which leaks if it is not. The safety release still works with it open all of the way. Thanks for the watch.

Thanks for showing how to set the pressures. I've watched a couple of other videos and they say something like set the A to 5 psi and the O to 6 psi. but they never say to do it with the torch open or closed and don't talk about how far to open the valves. Thanks so much for that little bit of info. I do have a question though. I have a small portable set where the tanks have been sitting around for a couple of years. The A tank gauge is reading -0- but I still get a flame. How likely is it that the tanks leaked to empty or is it more likely the gauge is wrong? Thanks for the good video.
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench Жыл бұрын
No worries, glad I could help you out. I would soapy water test your setup at every fitting to make sure you don't have any leaks. After that then you might have a faulty or mis-calibrated gauge. Thanks for the watch!

I'm a machinist and Im just getting into welding . I'm doing this at my house and some limitations basically makes gas welding my best option. Is this too dangerous for someone new and learning on their own? I feel confident I can do it , but I've also heard some people say you shouldn't try to learn this on your own as as well.
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench 3 жыл бұрын
Cheers! I'm a Tool & Die Machinist as well! Well I guess if you weren't a machinist and you were thinking of getting a lathe, there would be dangers there too. Would you feel it would be better to learn somewhere else where a competent teacher or tradesperson could help you learn? I would think so personally but it really depends on the individual and whether they are safety conscious or not. There is the live fire, sparks, hot metal, and possible explosions ( if not operating/closing valves/bottles properly) to think about as well. So I would suggest learning elsewhere with someone qualified to teach it and then perhaps try at your home shop which is set up to safely weld in. Good luck on your welding and Thanks for the watch!

Hi, way of wrench. Can I use your "A before O" best practice for LPG/Oxy welding?
@wayofthewrench
@wayofthewrench Жыл бұрын
OxyPropane is very similiar to OxyAcetylene so yes but it is slightly different to set a neutral flame. If the torch pops when shutting it off, shut the oxygen off first, then propane. Cheers!
