Mind a suggestion? Put a buttonhole slit in your leather strap, and hang it off your overalls button- frees up your hand! Or add a button or hook to hang it off the wire at the end of the suspenders.

50 of 74 years a hobo. Great video. I always carried similar equipment tho slightly updated. Like a plain old blue tarp vs your muslin waterproof tarp. I would also add an 11th " C ", common sense. A little common sense such as thinking a few minutes about what/how to handle situations goes a very long way. It has save me lots of problem by figuring out my next move so to speak.

I've had the honor of meeting a few genuine hobos in my life. Folks who, through misfortune or wanderlust, were always on the move, and asked for no charity (but accepted it when it was offered.) My dad taught me the difference between a hobo and, say, a vagrant or grifter. He calls hobos "gentlemen of the road." He himself was a wandering musician when he was young so while not a hobo, he knew the culture.

2:45 Somewhat regrettably my current belt(and it's buckle) are nylon; yet have their own current advantages... That said, the only kind of belt I wore many moons ago were a thick leather-strap belt as shown here. Once while driving my car in the mid '90's & traveling a fair distance; had an issue where one of the flanges(connectors) on the exhaust failed, leaving the muffler dragging on the pavement. Without worry, pulled to the side if the road, took off my belt, hitched it up to whatever I could find, and was back on my journey home in less than 5 minutes! Drove it like that for another couple weeks before I could get it "properly" repaired! Maybe not a bad idea to include a long cheap leather belt in your "Roadside Emergency" kit!

Good video as far as it goes. A trap that many who try to build a "10 C's" kit fall into is assuming that they are limited to one item from each catagory. Your container is neat but you need to add a canteen/water bottle for those long walks/rides that a hobo might make in their travels. The other serious lack is a blanket to go with that rubberized ground cloth. Depending on where you are it can get damn chilly at night and a blanket would be a necessity. The 10 c's is a list to provide a guide to selecting your gear. It's not intended as an absolute limit on the number of pieces of gear that you carry...
