So that's why that drive Dean went on in Heaven took so long and really this wrapped things up for Supernatural soooo much better! Jensen kept his word that this would all make sense by the end of season. They really need to keep it going, have Dean continue as a guardian...let Mary and John choose their lives.

I will say this is a legitimately creative way to address the continuity issues with the show. By making this another earth in the multiverse this show is actually a sequal to supernatural rather than a true prequel. It even leaves the door open for fan-favorites like Dean, Castiel, Bobby etc. To appear from time-to-time without breaking canon. I'm ok with this.

As for Jack's statements of "non-interference" I think he only meant for the "Lower Realms"... meaning anywhere that doesn't included Heaven & Hell & Purgatory! (Though I'm sure Jack may have or might still restructure Purgatory, so as to allow or let some monster's into Heaven... Maybe set it up so they aren't "Hungry" anymore while in Heaven!)

From what I read they changed a few episodes at the end of the season because they didn't believe they were getting approved for a second season, so they made it a finale to the series that gives things an actual ending to the story. Ada losing part of her soul was going to carry over to the next season, but that changed. It's probably best to take this info with a grain of salt. TBH the finale did seem rushed so it wouldn't be surprising if the info is correct.

Now I get why Jensen said it could be difficult to include Sam into the story. At this point in his life I doubt that Sam has anything to do with alternate universes anymore. Makes sense to me if Jared won't appear at all. I liked the fact that Dean is still all about protecting Sam. But I doubt that there will be more than this mention of Sam in Future episodes. This explanation also limits the possibility of Dean having more screen time too. He wouldn't do anything that could harm Sam and his family.

As much as I want a Season 2, here's the problem: 1. Where the hell are we gonna go from there? This feels like an ending with a wrapped-up bow on top of it. 2. Given the critical reception and TV ratings for the show, it's more unlikely for a 2nd Season to be greenlit.

They built this to work as both a season but also a potential series finale, showrunner has more stories for S2 and beyond in case. More SPN characters can cameo, I don't think so about Dean tho according to this scene.

@Wayward Winchester I agree. As a series, this was a great sequel one-off, and now it's unknown if a 2nd will work if it'll happen, because of the unknown direction. Will we see these guys again? Or will it be an anthology where we see different versions of John and Mary in different universes.

I rather a new idea along with S16. Cass spin off with Jack and the archangels or an older John teaching Sam and Dean hunting all sound better.
