The restaurant we were asked to photograph this time was “Youkiiken” in Gunma Prefecture. It is a popular restaurant for its gyoza (Chinese dumplings), and has been introduced many times on TV and in the media.
The day of the shooting was cold and there were few people on the street, so the owner said, “There may not be many customers today,” but the restaurant was full within 30 minutes of opening and there was a waiting list.
Anyway, the gyoza were delicious! The gyoza are made from the top brand cabbage in Japan, Tsumagoi Kogen cabbage, which is very sweet and refreshing, yet juicy, and you can eat as many as you like. Still, it is surprising that the jumbo gyoza is priced at 600 yen for 5 pieces and ramen is quite inexpensive, starting at 450 yen. The vegetable-rich gyoza bean paste and the sticky skin are a perfect match, and I found myself wanting to eat them even as I write this sentence, even as I recall.
